Newc is obviously just stalling until he can get the guitar in his own hands. i.e., Before anyone tries to queer his backdoor deal with a higher offer.

Re: First-ever USA pointy?

Thanks Bret for the info. No I did not start this for the attention, and no I do not have it. I have #2433 - black 83 Star you've seen before - and did not know when Stratheads ended and pointies began, and since no one knew (or would say if they knew) what the first pointy was, I didn't know if I did or did not have it.
Of course, I DID keep the thread going with "teasing" because I still wanted to know what the first pointyhead USA Charvel was. Had I posted "Oh, ok, then the one I have isn't it, but does anyone know for sure what it was?", then this thread would get buried quickly and I wouldn't have the answer, which is what I want.
No, I haven't seen a low-serial pointy for sale. I thought about rounding up folks to do a limited edition similar to the other "limited editions" of the first-ever USA Charvel pointyhead, since Stratheads are banned, and wanted to know what it was first.

I think you'll get all the information you can use and more without tricking people like that! If you don't get it through the board you know you can always email guys like Chucksplatter or Tracy and they'd help you out!

Re: First-ever USA pointy?

"tricking"? I fail to see how I've tricked anyone - I reasoned that I MIGHT have it since I didn't know what # it was, and that's all I've said through this entire thread.

On a similar note, I was under the impression that the main purpose of this board was to find information, not to build a Contacts List and spend my day sending out emails. I post a note here and wait for the answer to come to me, rather than sending out a half-dozen emails to people who would most likely respond with "Why, what have you got?" just like was done here.

Yes, I could have started a thread like Shreddermon did about "Hey gang who wants to join me for a Limited Run of replics of the first pointyhead?" but without knowing what it was first, I'm sure the idea and any interest in it woulda just blown away.

Sorry for getting everyone's Collector Panties in a bunch, I was just asking a question and got met with questions instead of answers, some useable info (which I appreciate), and then finally a reprimand, when all I wanted was one serial number, or at least a range to start looking in.

Hey Newc, I was just giving you a hard time about pics for the fun of it...and I like to drool over other peoples guitars. If I had the answer I would have given it to you right away. After all, that what this place if for.

So how does it play, how is the Floyd install? Details man

Re: First-ever USA pointy?

Search for the "83 Star" thread that Charvel750 started - it'd the one from Elderly about a month ago - all the pics are in there.

It plays great - feels just like the Blue/Yellow Checkered Bullseye Pointyhead Star at NAMM (can you believe they want $1350 EXTRA for that graphic? That's not MSRP or MAP, that's exactly what you pay ON TOP of the guitar )

Anyhoo, I don't know if they got the Strathead necks right, but in a blindfold test I doubt anyone could tell the diffy between this one and the one from NAMM.

The Floyd install was done over a Kahler route that was done over a v-trem route, so it looks like crap but it works
The Kahler was either a factory mod (doubt it) or it was refinished black after the Kahler was added, then Floyded and a slant cut at the end of the trem cavity (to allow pull-ups). No marks to indicate who made it and no bevels - same as the Shattered Glass.

It also had a neck hum added and it's at least close to the right spot

Just another welcome soul on Dr Newcenstein's Island Of Misfit Toys
I think I'll name this one "Charlie In The Box"

oh yeah...the one with the crooked Floyd job...looks nice but does it play? Kinda looked like an optical illusion where the strings werent even on the fretboard.

Either the neck holes or the body holes were drilled crooked at the factory, and they shimmed the neck to make the strings line up. The Low E is still kinda close to the edge, but bends don't grind out, so I'm thinking they shaped the frets to match the misalignment.

It plays perfectly - the only time you'd push the Low E off the board is if you were riffing past the 17 fret.

Newc, there is NO WAY that guitar came from the factory with the holes for either the neck or the body mis-drilled so the neck leans off to the side like that.
I have no idea what the story is on the guitar but right off the bat, I'm smellin a rat. Aftermarket body, perhaps? Is there any writing in the neck pocket?
