So it's not legit? Pretty cool guitar, even if it isn't.

          Is the neck legit?
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

The neck looks fine but the body, no idea.

The striping makes me suspicious. No 2 are alike....however, the 1 thing they did have in common was that they used wide stripes as well as smaller ones. Could be legit, but, I would need it in my hands to say for sure. -Lou

I think this guitar has been discussed quite a few times over the years, and is legit. Isn't that the one in Hawaii? The owner likes to show it off but won't sell. If I remember correctly, someone on the board has seen the guitar in person.

Ok, I think I'm starting to understand these 6 holes in the trem cavities of older models I've seen (this one and my two Stars) - could they be string-through holes? Maybe these were originally fixed-bridges and were later converted/routed for trems?

Hmmm...I have a v-trem just like that one, but mine is in much better condition. I was never really sure if it was legit or not.

Does anybody know what he's asking for it. Probably something outrageous, if it's been discussed for so long. Seems to me there are some experts/collectors who are willing to pay some serious coin for old Charvels, so if this hasn't been snatched up by now it's gotta be crazy expensive.

                      Or crazy fake.

It's legit, and not for sale.

Newc, Prepros were not finished in the cavities, like this one. Also, those six holes are the bottoms of the trem screw holes. Also common.

i could be wrong but it looks legit tho i question the bridge & a couple of other little hardware pieces. the bridge looks like a standard spaced bridge. low E almost off of the fretboard.

                            Hello JCForum friends,

Here is the story/info regarding my Charvel EVH Black/Yellow Pre-Pro unserialized Strat Guitar!

(This was a while ago, but this is what I best remember)

I originally bought it from my local guitar hero, Corey Shun, Aiea, Hawaii! This is around 1981-82 (ish).

He came to me one day and showed me a paper magazine ad.
If I remember correctly, I think it was a Music Emporium
                            Mag/Booklet etc....
It had a picture of the Charvel EVH II Blk/Ylw Guitar,in the corner, and it said something to the effect that this guitar does dive bombs, etc..
                            or something like that.

I think it was originally priced @ $595.00

I really wish I could see that original EVH II Guitar Ad again! That would be really cool!

To be honest, I really didn't care about the guitar at that time, because I had just started to play guitar,
and didn't have any idea what I wanted
                            or what was good!
What was important to me, at that time though,
was that I was going to buy a guitar that my guitar hero
used to play! Now that was important! HAHAHA!!
For that reason alone-I bought it from him.

Then, a few years later,I sold it to a high school friend of mine, Alan B.
(Yes, I had no idea what I was doing at that time)!

Many, many, years later, (from the time I last saw that guitar - around 1998 ish ?),
I bumped into Alan, and I mentioned to him
if he still had the guitar I sold him long ago.
He said yes, I changed the strings once,
played it a little, then put it in my closet all these years,
and pretty much used my other guitar(s) etc.... to play!

So, I traded him some other gear that he wanted,
and an old friend/guitar came back home!
Alan wasn't planning on really playing that guitar, and he knew that I had played that guitar live, in bands here in Hawaii for many years, and that it was a special guitar to me etc....too.

When I got the guitar from him at this time, it was missing the trem back plate , and control cavties back plate. Alan said he didn’t know what happened to them.
                            ing
Around (1999 ish?) Rob Lane called me one day at my job (Hot Licks Guitars Aiea, Hawaii),
and he asked me to get the EVH II guitar in my hand,
and then he started asking me a whole bunch of
specific questions about the guitar, to see if it was legit.
After I looked at the guitar and answered all his questions
on the phone, Rob said, Yes, that's a real EVH II Pre-pro Charvel!
I said I know it's real Rob, When I originally bought it 81-82 ish, nobody was making copies of a guitar that was only worth $595, at that time!
Plus, this guitar has the exact same scratches,
in the exact same places that I remember personally putting on it too. HAHAHA !!!!!!

Rob was really cool and he educated me a whole
lot about old Charvels, in that little short of time on the phone with him that day.

Around this time, I had was in the process of moving,
and in doing so, I was going through some old boxes and stuff, and I saw in the bottom of one of them, the 2 original EVH II guitar back plates!

As of up to date, 2007, everything is still stock
on the guitar, except the-pot and pickups.
I had changed the pot when I originally 1st had it,
                            because it went bad.
I currently have a Seymour Duncan Custom Shop
                            78 Model Pickup in it!

The guitar is hanging in the store ,
and it always is the spark that starts some really
                            cool 70’s/80’s guitar topic conversation!

My favorite is when a mom brings in her son to sign him up
for guitar lessons, and he sees the guitar hanging, and a huge poster of Ed
playing his Black & Yellow guitar hanging next to it too,
and then the kid says to me-
Who’s that guy playing that killer guitar?-
and then before I can answer him,
                            his Mom say’s – That’s Eddie!
Then the kid looks at his mom and says –
You know who that is mom?
She says- Everybody knows Eddie !!!!
                            HAHAHA!!!!
The son is just trippin out that his mom
knows who this rocker dude is in the poster,
                            and he doesn’t! HAHAHA!!!

Anyhow - The guitar sounds really good!
It has a very stringy strat sound to it.
The body looks and sounds like Ash.
The maple neck has the typical Charvel worn in
                            feel/profile to it.

I own 2 Wayne Guitars, (Rock Legend & Monster)
and compared to those 2, this Charvel EVH II’s neck
feel has a little bit more “meat” on the back of the neck.

This is the history/info of that EVH II Pre-pro
guitar to the best of my rememberance !

I hope that info is helpful!

Have a great day my Charvel
                            forum friends, and thanks for
the great reads, and all the learning info!

The only thing that looks wierd on that guitar though are the two "E" strings. They look like they are over the edge of the fretboard down at the last few frets. Especially the low E string. How does it play? It looks like it would be almost impossible to play those 2 strings on the last few frets.
