Re: Van Halen Charvels

I'm with you dudes. I don't see the point of spending that much on a guitar when the same components, paint job and all that can be done much cheaper and *gasp* you won't be afraid to play the **** out of it and maybe put a scratch on the thing.

Sorry, I have a hard time rationalizing those high prices, my hard earned dollar is worth way more than that.

This is not a knock against those perspective buyers of the Charvel though, just that for me I prefer to make my dollar go a longer way. The most quality for the least price I can get, maybe that's why I'm such a huge Carvin fan.

Economics 101. Things are "worth" what people are willing to pay for them, supply and demand etc... I'm not buying one because I can't afford it, but if I had money to burn I'd be all over it. It doesn't look like there's a shortage of people willing to shell out $15K for one of those guitars, that's for sure.

Better than any $ 215 (almost brand new) guitars.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wellllllll... Obviously intended for me.

Having played for some 24 years, I own and have owned a lot of USA Jacksons and played MANY more. My $215 dollar Almost brand new (still has the plastic protection on the plastic parts) Charvel 475 somehow is right there with them as far as build quality, and actually is nicer made that my 90 USA Fusion. yeah, dark rosewood board, but the ebony on my fusion sucks and is flawed and the rosewood board is perfect.

SO, I doubt that these will be a better guitar, at least not by the differing monetary amount. They are just blessed with a has been guitar gods wave of the hand.

Woohoo!!! Big deal. Collector value? To a small group of guys reliving their youth remembering when Eddie was good. that's about it. Yeah, I'm sure they will happily move the prices upward and upward as the guitars move a few times. Very likely.

Yeah, I was laughing when I typed it. Hehe...

Sad... At least not as "has been" of a "guitar god" as Malmsteen. That is a real cry. Couple hundred people come see him now, maybe.

Malmsteen. That's funny. I saw his picture in a Dimarzio catalogue like last year or so. All I kept thinking was the Vegas (fat) Elvis! Big gut, double chin, I was rollin! My stomach hurt from laughing so hard.

Re: Van Halen Charvels

yeah and malmsteen plays little or no rythym guitar live. he plays his trademark "wheedle" thing, twirls, throws picks into the audience, "wheedles" again, sslings the guitar over his back, throws a pick...you get the idea!!

he sucks.

at least eddie still plays the songs.

Re: Van Halen Charvels

Malmsteen sucks? Umm, wow... No rythym guitar as that isn't what his music is quite about. He doesn't play pop EVH type of music that requires that stuff. It's mostly guitar wanking.

That guy could shred anyone on this forum an off day and half in the bag with whatever his fav beverage is. Yes, shame he got boring after the first albums (like Eddie), but the guy is a god. Not that I dislike old Eddie, but YJM has probably forgot more about guitar than Eddie ever knew.

I've seen YJM live many times, he was most always pretty amazing. I've met the guy as well and he was quite a cool dude contrary to popular belief.

YJM sucks? Umm, not really.

it was a joke. yes YJM's first 2 albums are great...but it was a joke, especially how he played at the G3 stop in clearwater!!

MD, I was at that show as well. I can't shake the image of YJM sweating and doing the air kicks with those tasteful white boots.

The guy is good, damn good, but some of his stuff gets old quick.
He has forgotten more music that EVH ever knew.

But EVH certaily had more mainstream success.

see. you know what i'm talking about. remember when his keyboardist said: "...and the man with the vintage MKII marshall's...Yngwie F-ing Malmsteen!!!" how dorky can you get?

yes the guy is good, but he has become a parody of himself (still wish i was a tenth as good as him).

He looked like a bad Chris Farley impersonation. Funny as all hell.
My buddies and I laughed all through his set.
Later we commented how talented he was, but man what a hairy sweater he is.

Re: Van Halen Charvels

I'll be the first to admit that seeing Yngwie on the G3 tour was sort of a Spinal Tap thing - I kept waiting for the mini Stonehenge to come down. However, that guy can fuckin' play the guitar. He played his rhythm parts when I saw him (the few that there are). Even on a bad night as a mockery of himself, Yngwie is better than you.

And dissin' Eddie? On this forum? Are you kidding me? Who the hell cared about Charvel until Eddie? This site would be www.jfonline.com and you guys would all be collecting Hondo's if it weren't for Eddie. Instead of talking about San Dimas Pre-pros and 12th fret dot spacing you'd be looking at the Hondo fakes on Ebay saying "that's a 5-ply body and any idiot knows that the early Hondo's were all 7-ply until they shifted production to their Hungdung Wang facility". And just like Yngwie, even on a bad night as a mockery of himself, Eddie is better than you.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

I think the members in Florida hate Yngwie because he has bigger house than yours.
