The maple board plays great...so does the rosewood and the ebony boards. I am starting to appreciate rosewood more because of it's warmer nature.

a san dimas neck with an ebony board is the ****. I have only played one and it was on a lefty-v that was strung lefty and I was playing it righty. despite that, I could still tell it was awesome.

It's all in the eye of the beholder . I understand that several members wanted it pretty badly and I can now see why. Out of many older serialized Charvels I own the explorer stands out in looks( as far as non-graphics go) and playability . Hands down the most smooth and comfortable neck I have ever played as well as an incredible sound from the DiMarzio pickups. As a bonus it has one of the most eye-catching birdseye/figured maple necks I've ever seen on a Charvel. I'll hang onto this one for a long,long time. Never played the 2 strats much and I'm happy they found their way out of the cases they were stored in. Thanks to Monte for a quick and effortless deal, enjoy them whether for play or for sale . If anyone has an explorer for sale let me know...I've got plenty more like that to trade and deal with.

I am really glad that you like the Explorer. It wasn't getting any play here...just more comfortable picking up a strat and playing.
The 2 pointies are great....been playing the grey one alot. The white one has some great tone....nice neck on it.
