Regarding tuners on a San Dimas, when they're not black, the ones I've seen are much more brassy looking than these gold gotoh tuners
at stewmac.

Also on the vintage tuners, the tuning heads look they've been nicely worn down to a nickel like color. I'm trying to build a replica, and those gold ones at stewmac just won't do. What's the story behind the vintage tuners and where can I get them? (3 oclock mount)

They were just gold plated nickel. If the tuners were actually made out of solid brass, they'd be all nasty looking today, green and black.... ewwwwwww.
