  • 1983 Charvel Info - Interesting Factoids

    Just got a real nice 1983 Charvel catalog(1st year for a real catalog) in the mail and included with it was a dead mint 5-page retail price list.

    Some interesting things found in the retail price list which says "Effective 6/1 82" :

    * Randy Rhoads guitars - Floyd Rose option already listed for $350, $270 for a Kahler and $100 extra for any color other than black or ivory.

    * Charvel "Standards" :
    Strat, Dinky, Telly, Star, Explorer, Flying V

    * DiMarzio pickups listed as exclusive standard equipment but Duncans could be had for an additional $30 ea.

    * Necks: Rosewood board $10 extra, ebony $50, lacquered neck $80, Brass nut $40(anyone ever see a factory brass Charvel nut ??? )

    * Strat, Tele, Star, Explorer & Flying V bodies could be purchased in Alder, Ash, Maple, Mahogany, Koa or Walnut

    * Guitar necks could be purchased with :
    G1 - 1 3/4" nut, wide, flat
    G2 - 1 5/8" nut, boat or "V"
    G3 - 1 5/8" nut, early 60's

    * Explorer and Flying V necks could only be purchased with the "G1" nut and only with Rosewood or Ebony boards, no maple/maple.

      thats kind of odd since there are maple boarded explorers in the gallery from 1983.

            with respect to Explorer necks..what is a G1 nut??? Is it a bone nut?? I have one and it has a whitish color nut. FYI NO skunk stripe on those Explorer head necks.
