First of all, The Music Zoo (I dealt with Tim) were great to deal with. Everything went smooth and shipping was overnite as promised, and that's all you can ask for.
The guitar needed a bit of setup, particularily the bridge. There were only two springs on the trem, and I prefer 3 to keep the bridge from moving when i'm bending strings. But that's personal preference.
Fit and finish is immaculate. I cannot find a flaw on the guitar. Obviously there are a great deal of differences in the details between an original and the 25th. I personally don't care, I don't find the differences objectionable.
As far as the neck goes, I really feel that it is very close to the old necks that I have played. It may be a bit meatier than most of the originals, and I wonder if that was done to help stablize the birdseye neck. The guitar sounds great, although I found myself turning the gain on the amp up a bit. I'm used to Duncan JB's, and the Duncan '78 thats in this guitar seems a bit more tame, somewhat like a Duncan '59.
All in all, it is a great guitar and i'm very happy with the purchase.
Is it worth the price? No, but I knew that before I bought it, and I bought it anyway, cause it was just one of those guitars you see and know that you have to own.
Ralph, if you are going to swap out the pickup and want to sell the EVH, I'll take that off your hands.
I've been wanting to try one, but I'm not paying $140 for a new one.
Great review, Ralph! I am sure it is am amazing guitar.
I have been swapping out JBs in my regular players for customs and '59s recently. I am finding lower gain pickups let me hear more of the guitar. I'd leave it in there for at least a while to see if you get used to it.
I'd like to line up behind Chuck, however, if you decide to dump the EVH.
And Chuck, when you buy it and a month later hate it (which will inevitably occur) put me on the short list! ;-)
Well, I'm a bit late to the thread, but that one is the best of the entire lot That should have been the color they went with for all of them.
congrats I'm also a fellow 25th anni owner and love the guitar!!! Looked into getting another of the 1 off's but could not pull the trigger very nice guitars take care of it ..!!!
