Re: I am soooo sad after NAMM...

Ron John and I quietly discussed that guitar etc.. The neck shape was dead on .. The point where the neck blended into the headstock wasn't quite right.. They are ironing out details to get these "period" correct that they just weren't there with on the prototype.. Which I may add was an awesome guitar imo ...

While I'm on the subject I am aware here of the dissapointment over what was displyed for charvels at this show. Step back and look at how far charvel has come in the last year and a half. Everyone said stratheads would NEVER be built again. They were .. No one believed Ed VH would ever return to charvel... He did ..

It seems like summer NAMM seems to be the hotbed for charvel.. maybethis year will be no different but I do know this. In ramping up the line, working on quality and making sure they do these guitars justice the powers to be at Jackson are simply "putting one foot in front of the other" and trying to make sure they do it right...They are very aware of their current demographic and they want to do it justice ... So while the line might not be moving as fast as we would like ... it is moving... give it time ..

I have to agree with many here. I would have bought a Charvel reissue, but the prices are way out of line for what you're getting. The bullseye is a $1,000.00 guitar - NOT a $2,000.00 guitar!
I played a few reissues and the necks felt just like modern day Fender necks. There was nothing special about these guitars.
Believe it or not I'm seriously considering buying a George Lynch ESP Kamikaze guitar. Better neck, better graphics, better price for what you get.

like it or not, from what i recall, the reissues are done kind of as a masterbuilt project. if they delivered $800 stratheads, you guys would more than likely bitch about how they're not like the originals. and i'm sure they wouldn't be. they'd be on par with an american strat, and i'm sorry, but the american strats that i've played felt lousy. from what i've seen, i've encountered bad fretjobs, unlevel frets, nut slots that needed to be deeper, etc.

then you have no idea what a fender neck feels like. the fretboard radius is different, the fret sizes are different, the back shapes are different, and fender laquers the living hell out of their maple necks. i think the fender thing is mental; if ibanez owned jackson, i bet we'd be having different comparisons.

Man Sully the Fender feels lousy? Compared to what for the dollar range? I bought a 25 Deluxe Swamp ash strat with maple board last year for 1099 (could have gotten better but I had a credit at a store) and wow. Fender actually lowered their price on the deluxe Fenders FWIW.

NEWC nailed it though from the front a Charvel Srathead can be confused wih a strat and fender themselves have long wanted that market... I think they would be wise to really look into that market with Charvels but that is for them to decide and I am not a likely buyer in anycase seeing as I am a Jackson man.

A strathead Star like Ron mentioned will not be confused with any fender product and that may be the start anyway...

when the buyout happened, i went to a gc and went straight to the super high end strats; all of them were well over $1500, and i experienced many of the above listed issues. when you go lower down the line, the issues become more frequent to find. that's why, imo, you've gotta play a lot of them to find a nice one. that said, i've only played one in my life that spoke to me, and that was 1960 (not a reissue) slab board three color burst.

To anyone thinking that Strathead Charvels aren't being pushed right now... look at the price the Original EVH Art series guitars sold for... Geez. People whine and bitch about one thing cause they can't have their way. Wow.

Charvel is selling Stratheads right now. After the EVH Standard Series is over, they'll probably move on to something else. Patience...

Then again, yeah, nobody knows or cares about EVH.
