• Vai's Green Meanie, before it was green.

Was at my brothers and saw he had an old Alcatraz video on his drive. I have previosly seen the God Bless Video clip, this was Jet to Jet, live somewhere. I was scanning for the green meanie, but then realised the strathead he was playing was it, in it's original form. Very cool to see. Does anybody know how long it lasted sunburst?

Thanx, I've seen that page, but never seen it used before it was green. He bags the colour of it out, saying it's ugly and whatnot, but he made it that way, lol.

Well, if I could get this guitar I'd sell it immediately (I don't like basswood bodies) and would buy several new San Dimas models with alder bodies.

Yes, and lets not forget what was done to "Scoopy" because of Mr. Vai's scalloped lowr horn. The horror.

Does anyone know what Charvel i would need to buy to make a replica of the Green Meanie?

I remember reading an interview with Vai back in the 80s that the guitar belonged to Grover Jackson, who kept asking for it back, but Steve kept giving him excuses and putting it off until Grover finally stopped asking.

How cheap was Grover to ask for it back? God forbid it gets some coverage from some up and coming rock stars.

If i might be bold enough...

get a cheaper Charvel import model, (maybe a 2 or something), then route it out for a JEM or Ibanez RG pickguard, or maybe even a charvel pickguard with Hum-Sin-Hum (not sure if they make these). Get a Charvel or Fender replacement neck (maple), and add that sucker on. Then strip the guitar, sand the horn, and add your own dayglow green. Then get some EVOLUTION pickups by dimarzio in those colors. There you go

Would It not be better to buy a Charvel Strat Shape guitar rather than a Model 2 with a pointy headstock?

Maybe, but you'd pay through the nose for a strat head, and then some folks here would hunt you down and gut you like a pig if you hacked it about like Vai did to GM.....

Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

Or just get a used GMW copy of the Green Meanie.

You would have much less money involved by building one out of parts or having one built by GMW or Wayne guitars. To butcher an original strathead Charvel would be blasphemous these days...unless your the kind of person that would add a Floyd to '59 flametop.
