    Re: Charvel #1001...new home

I do have one complaint about TracyCentral. I don't get to actually play the guitars. Heck, I ran into Steve Vai and he let me play EVO. The least you could do is to ship your guitars down to me so I can try them out.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

That is not a new neck on the guitar. He's got photos dating back to when it was new as well as NAMM shots with some well known players. The changes that were made were done early on and he's lucky to have them documented.

He didn't pay Harley money for the thing either(unless you are into used Sporsters). With the favorable exchange rate I'd venture to say he got it for a great price, and I'm cheap when it comes to these.

The seller claims the old ebay auction was not his, but a friend listing it. That is ancient history and just a typical ebay soap opera. The guitar has been readily available for anyone with some negotiating finesse. I will say that RW is able to get many of these guitars for very good prices because the sellers are comfortable with him. He either picks them up in person or has all the shipping taken care of on his account. He doesn't flip them to make a few bucks. They go to a good long term home where they are appreciated and also made available for others to look at. The guitars I sold him are still there several years after the fact. Most of my other C/J's have changed hands at least twice a year. Given the choice I'd prefer to sell to him for less that what I'd get on ebay.

i see what you're saying larry, and if i had my way i would have not sold any of my guitars at all, but due to addiction, a bad marriage, taxes, etc. i had to watch them all leave. most of my favorites are with people i know very well, and some i don't , but i hear what your point is about them going to a good home where they will be appreciated. i've always said that guitaars are human, i used to talk to mine all the time when i was happy, sad, fighting, in trouble, they were always there for me until the last one had to go. i die 62 deaths everyday, but at least i know where some of the choice ones are and it helps a little bit.

I'm with you on that. I have a few guitars I wouldn't mind getting back some day that I have no idea where they are, or worse yet got parted out. Although I probably won't get back any that I sold to RW, I at least know they are in good hands and that I have first shot at them if they get sold. Of the dozen or so that I have sold him he has only gotten rid of one that I can think of. It was a Strat head Charvel that he needed to give up in trade to get an early Jackson and he even had the class to email me first to see what I thought about it.

I know for a fact that he didn't pay as much for #1001 as what many here are speculating. It was not easy for the guy that owned it to sell after all these years. It ended up being a very good karma transaction for him to sell it the way he did.

well, be careful on the "i have first shot on them if they are ever for sale again" theory.

                [ QUOTE ]
It was up on ebay a couple of years ago. Yogadork won the auction (legitimately) for $5K, if my memory serves. The seller then got cold feet or whatever and backed out of the deal. No editorial or judgement here, just the way I remember it.

That's basically how I remember it, except he didn't get cold feet, he decided it was worth more and wasn't going to sell it for the original auction winning bid.
