  • Hard tail Charvels

how common was it to find hard tail brass bridges on Charvel guitars? I know Jake E Lee used hard tails and here is a pic of George Lynch playing a Charvel with a hard tail. Just curious as I have yet to come across a legit Charvel with a hard tail bridge...

Question when Fenders were Charvelized a la Jake's white Strat, were the fretboards replaced? Is the 12th dot spacing on Fenders same as on a Charvel??

        Anyone know...

Trace, I just bought a 97 USA Fender strat neck and dots appear to be dead nuts on SD Charvel dots. I didn't measure them but just eyeballing them it looks right to me

There are way too many Fender necks out there and the dots are all over the place...

Wonder if Charvel copied the dot spacing from a Fender neck back in the day??? Interesting...

              Trace,

I am 99.9% sure I read that Jake's main white Charvel (which was a fender) was shaved only, fretboard was not replaced.

I think right there is one of the keys to "Charvelized" - the shaving / planning of the fretboard to a Gibson or just slighly flatter radius, and then dropping a bucker in. To me, that was what really turned the corner in the turning the Strat into a more aggressive, rock-n-roll machine. The graphics were the icing on the cake. EVH wasn't exactly inspiring hardtails, but we know how Jake felt about that.

Also - on the maple necks, depending on the thickness of the dots, any change from a 7.5 to a 10 + radius on the neck would require re-dotting the board since the originals would've been planned off.

                    Re: Hard tail Charvels

Hey, does anybody know if any of Jake's Charvels had the two different fret sizes like his ESP signature models (jumbo on frets 1-12, medium on 13-22)?
