I didn't mean to start a war and I appreciate that some people can take my point of view with a grain of salt. If you like them great I just think quality for the price is a little unfair. As a guitar player and not a collector I always look for the best quality for the money. Have a great weekend everyone and thanks for the nice words Chuckracer! Interesting. I am not sure what your frame of reference is, but Nick and I ran a pair of '83 maple boarded SD pointy originals against a new maple boarded SD pointy at Matts a few months ago and the new one held its one no problem. Yeah, it wasnt "broken" in, but it was brand new and the fit, finsh and quality was there. Price on the otherhand is high, but fender aint stupid and they know who they are marketing too and it aint high school kids without jobs!
Sorry you caught a dog, I wondering if a poor set up wa the culpret (I have recently played a few new pointys which definately were not stored properly and needed a set up and it did take away from the expirience).
"I''ll say what I'm gonna say, cuz I'm going to Hell anyway!"
you could have easily gotten a bad one. I'm a LP fan, I've played many that I wouldnt give $100 for, and others worth a left nut. Maybe the shop didn't set it up? nonetheless, for $1900 that guitar won't sell, even if it is setup.
Its a complete catastrophe. But Im a professional, I can rise above it. LOL
That's interesting that you bring this up, Tim. I thought I was the only one. I have played three new Charvels and found all three to be a huge let down. One with a Floyd, two with standard trems. The fret work left a lot to be desired and the necks felt slow and sticky. I remember playing originals in the store and thinking "Wow, this is amazing!" The only thing I could think when I played these was "Yukk!"
Hmm, definitely interesting... COuld it be that QC really is slipping?? I´ve played 4 or 5 and have so far been really impressed.... But I also agree that 1900$ is too much, I´m in Europe and I wouldn´t pay that
I just bought a RGF, 2 hum, floyd, rosewood board from the local GC and it is a fantastic guitar! The fret work on this one is flawless, the finish is fantastic and it kicks major ass tone wise. I got a pretty good deal but it was still expensive! My wife nearly kicked me out of the house!
Anyway, the fret issues might be a batch problem. I bought a DK1 in March that had terrible fret work. I took it in for a fret dress and refin.
I do not have any original Charvels to compare to this one, and this is my first Charvel, but now I understand why everyone goes crazy over Charvel guitars. Every time I play this one I say to myself, "DAMN that is SWEEEEET!"
from what i have heard the new ones rock ,also note i have owned OVER 50 old ass san dimas jacksons and charvels many charvels both stratheads and piontys and had some that played like shit ! others like butta also everyone has a diff size hand thus one mans way cool thin neck is someone eles shitty ass thin neck and other guys killer fat neck ala holdsworth is another guys baseball bat ! i guess you gota just buy em all ! lol ! , see ya , ALZ
Like the old saying goes.......Opinions are like a-holes, everyone has one!!!! Here's mine: I purchased a new Charvel pointy recently and it plays and sounds just as good as the originals. Also, didn't pay $1900.
