• BLACK is BACK

Hi all .. GREAT forum.
I've had the pleasure to own 3 USA Charvels .. here's a story on each:

1. Tequila Sunburst (serial 5276), gold Kahler, single hum ('84-85) .. stolen in 1993 from a rehersal studio in Easton, MA. That was my first store bought guitar .. my baby .. played like a dream and possibly had the most beautiful light sunburst I have ever seen. I'll try to find some pics.

2. White ('84-85) 3 pickup (2 single, 1 hum) black Kahler. This one I traded for a cheap SG that my son got a hold of and broke the neck. The Charvel had great tone from the singles and killer action (of course). Again, I'll try to find some pics.

depressing ain't it .. but all's not lost

3. Black with black Kahler (serial 4388) .. This is what's left of my collection .. It's an awesome guitar, neck is smooth and fast .. everything is original (why change anything?) .. my only question about this one .. The neck has a pencil number of 6355 (underside) but the plate is 4388 .. Is this normal?

Enjoy:

6355 Was most likely the work order # vice the serial # of the guitar.

Not uncommon at all bro. </font>

Re: BLACK is BACK

I live in Brockton .. I got the black one from Chip in New Bedford .. you must know him then. I got the Sunburst from Music Unlimitted .. I think I payed $525 brand new .. My old band Southbound (you must know them too) turned me on to the guitars by Wayne Charvel, I never turned back (cept for my 64 Gibson SG, hehe) .. so it was a choice between the Sunburst and a White one .. of course I picked the Sunburst.
If you're from the area .. if you see that Sunburst please let me know .. that was my first born and I think about it everyday.
Funny, I don't see too many black ones .. the guitarist in Crowbar had one, but that was it.
I'll try to post pics of the others ... I know I have a black and white pic of me at the Channel years ago, but that would do it no justice.

Hey Bon3,

Did you play with a guy named Scott Shepard in Southbound?

Re: BLACK is BACK

nope // I played with the St. John brothers, Tommy and Jerry Leavens .. back in the mid 80's .. we also did quite a few gigs as St. John backing some national acts like Stevie Ray, Molly Hatchet, Outlaws, Blue Oyster Cult to name a few. Scott Sheppard may have been after me .. also we were based in MA and I noticed you're from Cali .. maybe it was a different Southbound.

I traded the White Charvel, pointy headstock, at Daddy's in Dedham .. 1993 I believe. Really nice tone on the singles. Of course I now regret that decision, but you live and learn. Here's a crappy picture .. The Jackson next to it was pretty sweet)
