Re: Eddie interview

[ QUOTE ]
How after all this could EVH sell these hand striped guitars supposedly to the fans (rich collectors) for what ever the total was, which was a shit load of money. Then after going though cancer himself and not donate the money publicly to some kind of charity or research and restore some faith in the fans (knowing dam well 99% of VH fan base didn't have a chance in hell owning one of these guitars). This would have made me a huge supporter of him and maybe then I could use the term "hero".

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not going to elaborate on this further because it really isn't my place to comment on a personal friendship.

However, I felt the need to respond to this quote.

How do you know he hasn't contributed or donated $$ to charities and/or research???? Knowing what I know about EVH and being his friend, you guys have a lot to apologize for.

BTW, if you were missing 2 big pieces of your tongue, thus limiting your ability to enunciate properly, you would sound impaired all the time too.

If you noticed I said publicly, and why not at least put something on his EVH hand striped guitar site. If you have a friendship with him give him nice whack in the pie hole for getting over cancer, getting a second chance on life, and then continually smoke and drink like an whino! I met him face to face twice backstage this past tour and both times he was chain smoking and lit up. I wish some people in my family were as lucky as him to get a second chance! Total class dude.

NOT!

John, I understand your personal relationship with Eddie. With that he's more human to you than he is to me or other fans. I personally see him as a hero, SuperEd - if you will. I can only rely on the media and anecdotes from his friends (like you) for my glimpse into his life. To me, he's a hero, but he seems to be confronted with his kryptonite. I really want to just remember him as the kid out of Pasadena who could light up a fretboard.

I'm sorry if my comments along with others seem harsh, but I think no matter how we word it, no matter how we want to look at it. We all want the same thing, a triumphant and productive Eddie Van Halen. Like I said, I don't think he's done amazing us.

This is the point, we all want EVH on top. We want to be blown away by this guy. We don't like seeing him or hearing him like this. We are all fans and we have a certain image of him, even though it might be a slightly warped image.

Please understand that we're not ragging on the guy, if I didn't care for him I wouldn't waste my time posting this in an internet message board. We don't all know the entire story, but that doesn't mean we can't care about him.

exactly, 'we' the caring (or non caring) public who have been exposed to the ED we know in all his brillance and flaws. It is because he has been an inspiration to so many of us in setting the bar to a higher standard in an area that has effected each of us greatly, likely because of what he's done either directly or indirectly that when you see someone like that struggling in both winning and losing ground in personal battles....you tend to either shut the door and ignore it because its difficult to identify with, or join in the rapport of the rabble and become part of the dysfunctional family, which was and is pretty much a household name as much as Letterman or Jay Leno/late night entertainment. I wish him the best, but what he does is pretty much his choice, I have no power over it.
I personally look up to guys like Les Paul who has overcome alot of personal adversities, not to mention physical limitations and still keep going.
