Re: Few clearer pics of the new Charvel Greenie ru
Regular #1 checking in. Took all day to get here but I'm about as far away from Matt as anybody I guess. My plate is 6693. The plates bum me out. That's why I asked several pages back in this thread. They should have been consecutive. When Kevin showed his as 6701 I was expecting mine to be 6711.
Same things to report as the rest of you guys:
Strings badly oxidized, terrible setup (Ive put 1 1/2 turns on the floyd posts and its still not low enough), color is darker than I thought, oxidation on my upper horn strap button and floyd screws.
I'm glad we got the G&G cases, the neck feels fantastic and it sounds great - I wanted 2 hums tho.
"S/S" needs to receive some feedback on these setups, these are Charvels man!
Re: Few clearer pics of the new Charvel Greenie ru
Obviously i'm not the only one who had an hour's worth of setup to do, since I was getting hassled back when I mentioned it as "impossible" coming from Sean ("SS").
Like I said before, how is it that a Charvel Standard and and EVH both came setup almost dead nuts perfect, and this is a Custom Shop (which we pay premium for), and it's not even close to being right...

This neck seems to be essentially the exact same neck you would get if you bought the cheapest US Charvel. The other "custom shops" I own have birdseye, and a noticably fuller back feel.

Birdseye or Flame are a custom upcharge and not something the CS just automatically does. With that said I'm not sure how it would react in Florida as your climate is much like S' Cali but I can say this. Figured woods do not do well in climates that vary greatly. I have several birdseye necks and they move quite a bit.
Like the bullseye to keep costs down and get a more stable neck I specified quartersawn ....

Either way, its an awesome guitar. Much Appreciated.

Regular #10 with serial #6694 is now the lowest serial available..
I think not matching the plates to the ltd 1 of 10 on the headstocks makes it a joke to be honest... So right now #10 regular is #1 LOL.. not bad considering it is the last of the 2nd run

Err, I have #10 regular, and the plate is #6711......Did I miss something?

I don't understand how the strings and screws could oxidize so quickly.
Could these cases be dispeling moisture or something from their manufacture and that is having these effects on the setups and components?
[/ QUOTE ]
I know, my hardware came in OK. But my strings just everyone where rusty as old fence.
I change strings on every guitar I buy anyway, so I did not bother me.
It should be no mystery on the strings though, we saw pics of the guitars being setup sometime late July and here we are on the end of October. Gentlemen, that was almost three months ago. Even if SS wiped them off there will be enough sweat residue to rust any set of strings short of Elixir, and this ain't.
The plates seem to be a problem to some. It does not kill me or keep me awake at night.
Were they all built by the same person?
I read somewhere that in the Fender CS plates where given to builders and they keep them in their shop cubicle's bins. As they finish a guitar they would use whatever plate was handy to them. Therefore serial numbers are all over the place, in Fender's Shop.
Mike S. signed all of these but he did not personally built them all. Am I right? His army or CS builders put them together and he just supervised their work.

Mine was setup by G.B. whoever that is. My setup wasn't great but I don't have an issue with that. I do have an issue in sub-par paint job though.

Most of this shit has been petty, but THAT one would piss me off. That had better be handled correctly by Charvel.
As I said earlier, Custom shop is simply a way to charge a little more money, whether its guitars or guns or whatever, it would appear.
Re: Few clearer pics of the new Charvel Greenie ru
I guess I really do like mya ction high as I absolutely loved the way mine played right out of the box. Didn't need to lower the action at all, to be HONEST I have not put her down despite the fact I have received 2 other new guitars since then)...I absolutely love mine!!
Re: Few clearer pics of the new Charvel Greenie ru
#4 Reverse signing in. Serial 6708 (so close to being sequential!)
I must say mine is looking good and I really am loving it. It sounds great, and feels even better. Strings were oxidized, action was way to high, but those arn't complaints really, just observations. I will definately be looking into buying another Charvel.
Re: Few clearer pics of the new Charvel Greenie ru
Kevin, I mentioned that as it had happened to me when I purchased my first Carvin guitar. I had ordered it with a tweed case and when the guitar arrived the strings were laying flat against the fingerboard. I called the guys at carvin and they told me the cases were new and probably didn't have time to dispel the moisture from the adhesives. What is interesting about this is that I read a similar review about this happening to someone else, in a different climate.
The guitar went back and they made things right for me.
Re: Few clearer pics of the new Charvel Greenie ru
1) The brand of gun oil used is BIRCHWOOD CASEY. It's available in small bottles at your local Wal Mart in the gun section. I'm sure any good sporting goods store will have it as well.
2) I'll ask the custom shop about the string oxidation issue. It's true they were sitting around for a bit before they actually left CA, but I get guitars delivered every day and it's rare there's any oxidation.
3) I'm aware of minor paint issues on 2 of these and I'm taking steps to get them resolved. If there are any other issues I need to know about them ASAP please.
4) Summer vacation home in the Keys? Nah... I'll take freezing my ass off over getting blown out to sea any day!
