I am gonna be honest here, as it is noone here's doing and I am clearly and genuinely appreciative of both the guitar and the work that went into getting it.
The setup was really awful. I just got it back from my tech. Now take this however you wish, but he does local tech work for a few guys..Chris Caffery, Ralph Santolla, etc...and his comments were the following:
He has NEVER seen that thick a fretboard, and he didnt mean it in a complimentary way. Apparently it is so thick, that the neck had to be shimmed (by Charvel) just to get it somewhat setup. I asked him to lower the trem flat against the body, and he flat out said he couldnt. He also told me he couldnt get the intonation correct the way he wanted it, and he said it had something to do with fret distances (I think). To prove his point, he showed me ( and I dont notice things like this) that the intonation screws were pretty gnarled up, and he said "they obviously had trouble too". He said that they must have "trained someone with mine"...
Please bear in mind when you judge this, that he has never said word one about any other guitar I have brought in. He is usually not this vocal. As a matter of fact, it has gotten to be a running joke that when I show up with a new one for him, he gets excited because I tend to bring in really cool stuff.
I love the guitar. The sound, tone, whatever you call it, is outstanding and I wouldnt trade it for anything. But, and there is always a but, there is obviously an issue there, and I hope they get it worked out. I cant imagine paying 2 or 3K, waiting a year, and getting in a custom shop guitar setup the way mine was. I would be rampantly pissed, and they would wish they had taken the month off after I got it.
It's funny, I have brought this up before, but I am having this EXACT same problem with Kimber right now. My $1300 custom shop (there's that phrase again)1911 just went back for the 3rd fukkin time . But this time, its staying there, and they are sending me a new one....
Anyway, I want to re-iterate, I love my Dweezil, but I am cautiously optimistic about my next Charvel CS order.
