  • Oddball USA Charvel

Picked this one up yesterday. I saw this one for sale a decade ago at Banks in Mpls (the infamous 'W' stamped J/C's), along with an identical spec'ed metallic blue one. I darn near bought it back then, and luckily it turned up at a music store a friend of mine manages. Someone played the heck out of it.

Ontario neck plate, old style gold Charvel logo, 24 fret neck, Jackson/Schaller trem. Serial in the 0019xx area. Not sure if was custom made or what. I wouldn't mind seeing the build sheet for it, but I'm sure with FMIC that probably won't happen.

    very odd

I have no clue about that body style and 24 fret necks. Jackson guys would know the scoop on when that started

I sort of remember this one. Post-SD custom order, possibly. That would explain the logo and plate, 24 fret neck, etc. Pretty rare from that era - you don't see many Charvel logos from then.

Normally I'd agree with ya but the serial # looks more to be an earlier C.S. The late 90s guitars would have an etched charvel plate with a 95XXXX or 96XXXX

My Jake was built in 2000 and it carries a 96XXXX serial on an etched plate

Definitely a 89 Custom dinky, that much is for certain. Probably a special order for the Charvel logo... does the build# match on the body/neck? Is there any other info in the pocket/heel/trem cavity?

                    Re: Oddball USA Charvel

I can hardly read what it says in the neck pocket, I can barely make out DK-USA, but it is almost illegible, looks like an ink stamp. Appears to be a silkscreened logo and not a decal. There as a 'M' in magic marker in the trem cavity.

Gold silkscreened logo? Definitely period correct, well silkscreened logos for Jackson. Post a close up of that headstock. I don't think we've seen many of those, unless that's how they do them now...

Jason at DCGL told me that we couldve ordered a charvel logo put on the guitar all the way up til fender bought jackson. How do you think Kev got his and the Lynch Sub camo's were made? It would've had a jackson plate still.

Closeup of the logo, looks silkscreened to me. Can't see any decal outline in the finish.
