• Painted necks?

I just picked up Dio's "We Rock" DVD yesterday. Vivian Campbell is playing his Charvel for most of it. At one point, there's a camera shot and you can see that the neck of his guitar is painted. I was wondering how common or uncommon it is to see a painted neck on a San Dimas.

Also, Vivian's guitar looked like it had a wierd-shaped cover over the trem cavity. Is that actually paint or did he have some sort of mod done?
Takeoffs are optional but landings are mandatory.

Yup,some had painted necks & some had laquered necks too,not nearly as common as the oiled necks!!

IIRC,that's tape on the control cavity cover!!

yeah Charvel offered painted, lacquered (clear coated) and oiled neck finish options. The oil finish being the most popular neck finish followed by, from my experience, lacquered and finally painted necks.

I have a painted SD Charvel pointy. I have also seen a few painted necks on explorer style bodies. There are probably pics in the gallery.
