Not wanting to be pedantic, but that's not what folks refer to as a San Dimas Charvel - that guitar was made in Ontario, and is part of the 'San Dimas Reissue' series. Not sure why the series was referred to as a 'Re-issue' as the specs are nothing like an original SD Charvel, and the guitars feel totally different.....

    [/ QUOTE ]

I know it wasn't made in San Dimas. I read somewhere that Charvel had meticulously copied a San Dimas neck for the Reissues. Thus, if the originals have necks that feel like this one, I understand why so many people love 'em.

Found it (I knew I didn't imagine this)!

    Per Charvel catalog:

"The original tooling and neck templates were located and used exclusively for the construction of the San Dimas Series."

Hmmm - the necks on my 4 re-issues feel nothing like any of the SD guitars I've played....

Thanks, man. That Strat is pretty damn nice, too. I hated to part with it, but desperate times call for desperate measures!

The San Dimas III had a slab maple top. The San Dimas 4 had a slab top, matching headstock and I think a pau ferro fretboard. They were quilted maple tops. The one I almost scored several years ago on ebay was a trans green San Dimas IV. Koa body. I've seen 2 up on ebay since then but both were mahogany. From what I understand the koa bodied san dimas IV were fairly rare.

              my thought exactly.

that is a beautiful guitar, but the naming of it like that makes no sense at all.

What is the nut width on that re-issue?

Erm, me again Actually, the SD III had a quilted veneer top with a forearm contour. The SD IV was the bound curly maple slab top. I used to have a III, and now have two SDIs and one SD IV....

Oh and you didn't mention it but the IV's also have a matching headstock Whats the word about the fretboard. Did IV's have a pau ferro board or am I just going crazy?

I love those SDIV's. I mean I'd like a SD1 Koa but what I really want is a SDIV, though I am not huge on that color. I've only once seen a trans green IV and it was that one I missed off ebay.
