O.K. Now that I've determined that my Charvel isn't Steve Vai's ... I have a couple questions about some things that I'm gonna do to it that might effect it's value.
One is the refin.. The guitar body was stripped of all paint when I got it, I am planning a refin, but not to the original work order color (metallic red). Instead opting for a modified "Hot Rod Flames" graphic...
Secondly, it's got the factory Floyd but it has the old screw in type posts .. The good news is they are still straight in the body but I was considering upgrading to the newer insert type posts.. Now to me, this seems more of a value killer than say the non-original paint scheme as some body material would have to be removed to accomodate the inserts and it's a permanent mod as opposed to a paint job that can be stripped and redone to work order specs if so desired... ON the other hand, from a player standpoint... the inserts would be more reliable in the long run and I don't want to have to drill the holes for the inserts AFTER the graphic is done if it should need them..
So you see my choices here... I want to keep the guitar as original as possible while still retaining it's everyday playability...
Some opinions from the people "in the know" would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance and !!
