Re: EVH Art Series - WTF is this?

sure its off a little bit it isnt the end of the world or anything. Its not like logos go in the exact same place on every guitar, even the old ones are all over the place...maybe they're recreating the old school hit the bong and apply the logo vibe..

hey Bob! Sorry to infer that ALLChavel logos were F-ed up after 1200. They absolutely ARE NOT!
Your's is DEFINITELY a keeper.
However, the 2-3 that I've seen, were numbered in the 1300 and 1400 series (If memory serves). Also the one at the local store is numbered in the 1600 series.
Sorry for the confusion!

OUCH. Either way, this blows. I'm just glad that mine weren't this bad. I know that the prepro stratheads tended to have "some" degree of variation with the Charvel logos placement..but this is totally unacceptable!

Mr. Fong, I've had Charles Lee assemble my Andersons over at TAG, and Kenny Jin assemble and setup my Suhr's. So technically speaking both of my best Andersons and Suhrs are "Korean" made. Looking at that logo, I´d say someone finally bought the Charvel crew a new Bong after all these years

Re: EVH Art Series - WTF is this?

I just played B&W EVH #1091 a second time at a GC. No logo issues, looks great, sounds great---but all the frets were sticking out both sides of the neck (ouch) and the Floyd nut was so off-center that part of it was sticking out the side of the neck and therefore all the strings were shifted much too far to the bass side. Is Fender squeezing J/C's quality control budget or are these isolated incidents?

I've had this happen on a couple of recent Charvies. They weren't like that when they arrived, but a few weeks or months down the road and they sprout fangs out the sides. I'm told by a local luthier (who I've just met, but has a good rep) that it's a humidity issue. According to him, it's bad in the northeast during winter, as indoor heat kicks in and it has way too little moisture = low humidity. He suggested running a humidifier, but that spooks me for my oiled necks.

Pat, yeah, I've had this happen on a Custom Shop Wolfgang in the middle of the fall, no less. (It also happened on my EVH R/W/B in the middle of the summer!)

Bruce Nelson at Tom Anderson's shop (who does all of my setups and worked on my Red/black/white) said the same. The necks (for whatever reason) will shink (when migrating from a humid location to a drier one - in my case from Meridian Mississippi to LA, CA), and the frets may "stick out". Not a big deal for a good tech, who will gently file down the sides to eliminate any excess fret tang. That said, a misplaced R2/R3 locking nut is totally unacceptable. And on any EVH AS, that's a complete insult.

...and FWIW, I actually took the R/W/B into the Tom Anderson shop to give to Bruce. Tom and Roy Fought both picked up and played the EVH. Tom's comment was "wow that's A LOT of paint and finish", but then again never ever says anything negative of other manufacturers. Roy picked it up and played "It's Getting Better All the Time" and said "nice". Ultimately, though, it was Bruce's opinion that really resonated w/ me (as Bruce is from the "same" Charvel generation as all of us). His comments were that the assembly and fret dress were really consistent. Aside from the setup to lower the action and file the tangs, he said there was not much more required. Now if THAT ain't an endorsement of the Art Series quality (at least as of September of 2005), I don't know what is.
