How black is the "black" on the new Charvels ?

I was drooling over the guitars at DCGL today, and notice that the NAMM Charvel Star they had in a "black pearl finish" looks much more like a grey than Jackson's standard black.

Perhaps this is just a lighting trick ? Or is this what one should expect from the new Charvels in terms of color ?

the lighter, kind of washed-out appearance, is a result of the Pearl. If it was just a regular old run-of-the-mill black finish, it would look more like you'd expect
