After looking closely at the guitar I am convinced if you expanded the SC route upwards to accomodate a humbucker, added a gold mounting ring the guitar would look great. Certainly better than it looks now. It would be a sort of middle/neck placement but I don't think it would be so drastic that it would look like a neck pickup was missing. Thats just one idea if the middle pickup continues to annoy you.

What a stunning guitar!!!

The SC pickup doesn't bother me at all, it's the routing that looks very amateurish, compared to the classy look of the whole guitar.

I'd rather get a professional HB routing in the same spot, Kramer Nightswan style, which may also be sonically interesting, what do you think?

Nothing wrong with that H-S layout. I dig it very much. The hack job aaftermarket routing is too bad, though.

If you're going to route it, why not just tidy up the middle route and then add a neck route so it's h/s/s?

My problem with the middle route is not so much the sloppy job but the fact that it doesn't match thats why I like the HH config idea, it just matches better. Also if you add a neck SC route you would probably need to add a 5 way switch, not worth the trouble IMO.

+1. Maybe some brass single coil PU rings, to hide the route job in the middle? Very nice guitar, BTW.

I think get one of those old school mighty mite or Dimarzio single coil brass or gold pikcup rings and it would improve greatly.
