• Another identification problem..

Hi all,

I've seen this Charvel guitar on eBay, and I was wondering what model it was. It looks pretty much like a Jackson Soloist (HSS as well) with a flamed maple top. The seller says it is an American Charvel, that's why I'm posting it here.

Here is the pic:

Thanx in advance for helping this n00b

Re: Another identification problem..

This is a quote from the ad:

It was made in the USA in Fort Worth, Texas - Serial No.338998 under the then partnership of Wayne Charvel and Grover Jackson so is great guitar put together by great craftsman.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The seller seems to be quite certain of his case. The current highest bid is 450 euro, and the minimum has not been reached yet... and there is no case included in the deal.

For me only two options remain..
1. The guitar is an American Charvel...
2. The guitar is way overpriced...

Re: Another identification problem..

I found a pic of the back of the guitar..

It is bolt-on, but I think the way the neck is attached to the body is a bit strange (of shape). I believe the later Charvels did have this type of neck-attachment..

Pls help me out

I've checked that 'guide' on Charvel prices, and a 475 should cost between $250 and $350, which is around 200 to 300 euro.

Thanx for your help! I really appreciate it!

Re: Another identification problem..

VitaminG is right, it's a Charvel 475 Deluxe-Exotic, displayed in the 1990/1991 catalog.
It's made in Japan. You can recognize the origin country by the logo (the USA Charvels have another logo), by the address on the neck plate and by the serial number. There are no Charvels or Jacksons made in Fort Worth. In the IMC/AMIC years, the C/J head office was there. The FT Worth address is only used on non-USA Charvels and Jacksons. All USA Charvels and Jacksons are made in California, form 1979 until 1986 in San Dimas, 1987 - 2003 in Ontario, and since around September 2003 in Corona. Their neck plates say San Dimas, Ontario or Corona.

not to mention Wayne was long gone by the time this guitar was made, and Grover had left a couple years before too. So the seller is full of it, no matter what angle you tip your head

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">... and Wayne was never involved in Charvel guitars. Wayne sold the company and the name to Grover, before Grover started building the very first Charvels.

While all of this is true. The 475 is a very well made guitar. It is better than most guitars you'll find in its price range.

i bought a charvel 475 incl. case for 220.- euro here in germany (which is about US$270.-), today. the color is black sparkle, very good guitar for that price.
i don´t like the active midboost as much, but the PUs sounds very well.

and yes, it is a MIJ charvel, but a very good one!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Of course, I am aware of that, but the 450 euro this guy is asking, is more than the average price on these guitars. I think, I'll wait until i find a nice Charvel for less money..
