Re: Charvel Ltd. Edition \"Naturals\"

Even though I'm a diehard 1H fan, I'd be up for a Koa SD1 Strat-head limited run. I would want the original (Dinky) body shape and 24 frets, though. Upon perusing the Charvel price list, it doesn't look like it should cost much more than the current "Naturals" series limited run, and if we keep it close to the original specs, there should be enough SD1 fans out there to support a Strat-head limited run. Hmm, I'm heading over to the "Limited Edition Guitars" sub-forum.

In all honesty Jackson should do this series again now in a strathead with 22 frets... I think it would make the people who felt these weren't part of the charvel line happy..

I absolutley agree. I have a SDI koa and a SDII mohagony and love them but always had mixed feeling about the headstock. They bring these back with same spec's with strat headstock's !! i will be first in line.

Putting any type of finish on a body deadens resonance/vibration of the body. Some like this effect, some do not.

Fat necks sound better? Depends on what you deem to "sound better". Phil Collen LOVES fat necks becuase he feels they make the whole guitar resonate more. I love the feel of the Charvel San Dimas necks and find that they resonate just fine. Neither one of us is wrong...just a matter of preference.

Body woods: Funny thing happened....EVH like basswood, so we did his Charvel EVH Art Series models with basswood bodies. Some people here felt that basswood wasn't a "real" wood to be used for guitar bodies. Mike Eldred went to visit Jeff Beck to document his Fender Esquire and interview him. As he was leaving, Jeff mentioned that he had this old Fender Stratocaster from the 50's or early 60's that sounded better then any other Strat he played. Mike asked to see it. The body was made of basswood. Hmmmm....suddenly basswood was an acceptable body wood! LOL Personally, I don't like it, but there is something to be said for lightweight, highly resonant woods.

Difference of opinion makes the world go around...and keeps the Custom Shop busy!
