Okay, we are told that Jake E Lee's "signature" white hotrod Strat was originally a 70's Fender, modified and re-decalled by the Charvel shop. Does this mean that it is acknowledged as being a "real" Charvel at all, or some kind of badge-engineering job? Was this a common practise at the time, and are there other, less well-known, examples of this out there?

Re: Jake\'s white Strat
There is also some debate over a few of Lynchs guitars to the actual builder vs the logo that appears on the headstock.
I am sure there are other examples also..www.usacharvels.com - info, pics and Charvel guitar discussion board. All things Charvel
My Charvel guitars - always one away from too many!

Re: Jake\'s white Strat
Yeah, I remember reading about George's various Charvel/Kramer/JFrog/Sandoval hybrids!
By the way, guys, I'm not having a "dig" at Charvel or Jake, it was just something that crossed my mind, that I'd never really seen discussed anywhere before.

I think this just goes to show some people can see into the future. Jake was trying to show Fender and Charvel that they needed each other 20 years ago.

Re: Jake\'s white Strat
Jake's White guitar is a 70's Fender which still retains the stock 3 bolt neck. (at least it did during the Badlands days) It also has the bullet truss rod adjustment on the headstock.Jake is the reason I use fender bodies! I also have an orange Marshall head. Jake is THE MAN!

Re: Jake\'s white Strat
Charvel completely rebuilt that guitar. They shaved down the neck profile, and headstock (it used to have the oversized 70's style). They also gutted the electronics, in favor of a Duncan humbucker, and Fender(?) single coils, new pickguard, and new knob and switch layout etc. And a new white paintjob on the whole thing. Why they retained the craptacular 2 bolt neck, I will never know. But that guitar is now a Charvel. They took the Fender product, and changed nearly everything to Charvel specs. Charvel period.

man you guys are so anal about what it is or should be ..Fact is that guitar plays a big part of charvel historyDon't worry - I'll smack her if it comes to that. You do not sell guitars to buy shoes. You skimp on food to buy shoes! ~Mrs Tekky 06-03-08~

Re: Jake\'s white Strat
as far as advertising goes, yes it does play a huge part in Charvel's history. But put it next to 5 other guitars that were born in the Charvel shop and you'd have to sing "one of these guitars is doin' its own thing". (although I'm sure they made it play like butter after the mods).

Re: Jake\'s white Strat
But wouldn't most collectors around here love to have that guitar for their collection, regardless of whether it's considered a "Fender" or a "Charvel"?
