Re: Jake\'s white Strat

Anyone know if Jake had the two different size frets on that or any of his other guitars besides the ESP Signature models? The ESP's frets were jumbo from 1- 12 and then medium from 13- 22.

I have heard that is how he had his guitars re-fretted. I guess it's one way to get smokin' low action though. When I do a fret level I always take more off from 12-22 to achive the ultra low action.

If some no-name nobody was selling a 'Charvel' guitar on ebay that was really a 70's fender that was modded by Charvel, having the neck shaped and headstock painted & decaled, I think a lot of people would be on their butt calling them a phony and a fake. This hypothetical guitar would be no more a charvel thank Jake's guitar. Having a famous owner doesn't make it more of a Charvel. It only makes it much cooler.

You guys can all pass on it when it's on ebay someday then, I know i'd be first in line to get my hands on it.

Charvel was the epitome of hot-rodded strats in the early 80's. Like it or not, a Fender strat is what started all that. What could be more a Charvel than a hot-rodded 70's strat?

In my opinion (only an opinion, so everyone relax ) it's the perfect example of why Charvel was created to begin with.

If a 1966 Nova has a 9" narrowed ford rearend and a mustang II front clip, it's still a Chevy....... right
Same principal apllies.
If Washburn had done work on Jake's guitar would it be a Washburn strat???

Re: Jake\'s white Strat

Depends on the extent of the work ...

Neck shaved
Headstock shaved
repainted
new pickups and a heavy brass bridge ..

Not much left Fender if you ask me other than the original wood .. but all the wood was modded and electronics changed... sorry that adds up to charvel... Ralph hit it when he used the term Hot Rodded guitars... Fender didn't have anything close to that at that time ..

Well, there was a big to do about Marc Ferrari's camo about it not being a charvel. So much so on the board that everyone stayed away from it.And for that,i will be eternaly grateful

All i know is that it was a guitar i wanted since jr high and now i own it.
I brought up this same question about Jakes guiar when everyone on charvel central was arguing about the ferrari guitar.I could care less who did what,i would be first in line to snag her because i am absolutely certain that the guitar has an INFINITE AMOUNT OF MOJO.Some of my favorite songs of all time were written on that guitar. Its is a modded charvel to me.George Lynchs original bengal was made from mighty mite parts, but everyone here would call it a charvel when it had the charvel logo. It now sports an ESP logo, even though its the same neck its always had on it.

Could you send me some pics of that Marc Ferrari guitar? What was the controversy with that guitar? I don't know the story. Thanks.

Re: Jake\'s white Strat

Jakes #1 white guitar is a Charvel, period. Even if it wasn't owned by him, a 70's Fender, completely rebuilt and reshaped by Charvel with new Charvel parts would be a very cool find. The problem is that the market today is flooded with fakes, so Jake's guitar gets the unfair comparison to the fakes of today. The important thing would be provenance (proof) that Charvel actually rebuilt the guitar, not some hack in his basement, cranking out fakes. Jake's guitar has unrefutable provenance, that thing is one of the most highly coveted CHARVELS of all time.

George Lynch's #1 Tigger is a maple body, made by Mighty Mite. The current neck is a Sandoval, and it was made as a replacement for the original neck with a 'hooker' style strat headstock, also made by Sandoval. (?)

There was nothing Charvel about Marc Ferrari's camo, other than it being featured in the 'Mondo' Jackson ad. Still a very cool guitar, with undeniable mojo, and not being a 'real' Charvel, Dave got it for a song, lucky bastard!

So, what about EVH's Charvel with the Gibson decal?

Re: Jake\'s white Strat

EVH's 81 axes were made in the Boogie Bodies, Schecter, Mighty Mite, Warmoth and DiMarzio era pre Kramer and pre Charvel serial era. I really consider those Charvel as well as these companies were all basically from the same FAMILY of aftermarket parts and a better quality than the Fenders that they were copies of. The EVHI and the EVHII are definitely Charvel to me. Even Randy Rhoads considered his guitar a Charvel. It was however the first of the Jackson era guitars.
Is the Jake guitar a Charvel or a Jackson, and are any Charvels really Charvels or should the really be considered Jackson, since Grover was the owner operator? I guess the final stamp is the the Charvel logo. But to me logo or not a pre 82 the Boogie Bodies, Schecter, Mighty Mite, Warmoth and DiMarzio and Charvel are of the same breed and should be considered equally qualifed and High Qualtiy components for KIT guitars. If it was worked on at Charvel Mfg. then it is a Charvel after all it reshaped and modded. It does not mater what logo is or is not in placed or replaced. Right???

If this guitar came up on ebay without Jakes name on it (so to speak)The Charval police would be out in full force calling it a fake. Great guitar with a cool story but NOT a Charvel.
