Re: charvel headstock pixs rd 2 (chicago)

thanks for all the info guys
i'm still confused about this guitar
gtrbuyer here is a link to a paint chip on the body with white primer exposed
<<<*>>>

also guys the paint on the body is not that great it has scratches and dents but my camera is not picking them up-there is wear and tear on the body and the neck
but i still do not know what to do he wants $1400.00 for it but i have a trade worked out
it would suck if i get it and it is not a charvel
but thats a chance i might have to take
thanks very much for all the input and info on this guitar
you guys are the greatest
sincerely,
tony

ok i just looked at the pics AGAIN....fret board overhang looks a little short in pic C10. also i now dont think its a wayne neck. my wayne has a maple fret board on a maple neck its NOT one piece. i dont know if wayne offers one piece necks like that. also look at the close up of the logo the H, headstock & TM look alittle funny.

charveljunkie get measurements of the heal width & pocket width.

Do you want to sell it
Looks good all the way, with some cool mods.
To bad the neck has damage - no big deal.
If this was a fake neck why put a damaged one on it?

Have a great holiday guys

Hossman,
i agree
for some reason the pixs make the guitar appear brand new but it far from that with dents dings etc...the neck is really not that bad just normal abuse for a 20 year old guitar
i'am getting it for the weekend so i will take some measurements of the nut and heel
talked to dm and i will take it in a trade and hope for the best-if not i will let you take a shot with the seller

Tracy

I have a few prepros with 3 digit pencil markings

Here is one of yours, notice no red marker.

Here is another, red on neck, pencil in pocket

Jamie

I can not read exactly what is written in the red neck pocked but if it is OD, I have one that says that. I thought the bevel "says" prepro and until someone shows me a pic of a serialized guitar with that pass thru I will hold on to my thinking that that is pre production.

Bevel looks good here, a little sharper than I first thought.

This is a cool thread and it really shows how tuff it can be to identify on line.

Defifitely. My reasonings are based on the headstock - something just dosen't feel right and to me if the neck is fake, I dismiss the rest as well. I can't see enough of the body to make a call either way. I agree with the markings making it an 83-ish body, and if thats true, then what did the heel on 22 fret stratheades measure?

umm...i know they're a tad bit smaller than the pointies...but i can't remember the dimensions for sure...isn't there like a 1/8th inch diff?...d.m.

Don't have any pics of it anymore, they got lost in a crash of my previous computer... But it was there.

well guys
i'm home with the guitar totally stripped down
i noticed on the heel you can see M.E. 7-7-?? under the clear finish
talked to jim maybe its Mike Eldred?
also on the backside of the heel it appears in pencil ALLEN'S could this be an employee built guitar? anybody know allen that worked at charvel around 80-83?
we also found 82/83 apm parts catalog and the brass parts appear to be the same in the catalog they also have the weird shape football jack
i also discovered the tremolo bar in the case
dm the radius on the ball to fin on the headstock is 5/16ths on my other 2 charvels it is 3/8ths radius a 1/16th difference-not much of a difference
tomorrow i will mic out the headstock and heel/cavity and post the results
so now its time to sleep
i will post jack plate pictures tomorrow

I'm with Jamie on this one. Neither the body nor the neck look right to me.

lol j2379, great points..anything is possible. The letters OBD are written on pointy necks "oil, black head, decal" not on bodies but I see your point. Thats why you have to consider it all when identifying these things. There are always exceptions but generally things come together.

Strat Heads were available to the very end of Charvel manufacture, the 2nd last Charvel ever made was a Strat Head. But you are correct and that the majority were pointies but Strat Heads were also made in the 1983 time frame.

The hole in body (pku route to trem) I am pretty confident that I have seen this on other legit examples. I just need to dig out the pics.

Kev (83Sandimas) maybe..those early 3 digit production codes were typically written in red felt marker not pencil but who knows...cool exercise to see how people think through the information though.

Chuckracer care to explain why..this is a very cool thread and I like to see/understand others interpretations to why someone thinks its this or that..love to hear your reasoning..
