From what I understand from many a more knowledgeable person discussing this guitar, this is in fact most likely the original neck. Actually, more specifically, this belonged to Tom Mcdermott, guitarist for Rick James who along with Kenny Walker were Jackson endorsers. This was probably ordered custom with a Jackson logo to give visibility to the endorsee.
When my luthier removed the neck, he stated that he felt it was the first time it had ever been off. The guy who sold it to me is a heart surgeon and a nice guy. Says he bought this and the 3 tite soloist from Tom in 86 and got that exact same story.. I dont see any reason why he would fabricate a story, doesnt seem necessary.
LPC,I WOULD say stating a "point of contention" does raise a legitimacy question, and unless you have some sort of info that might be truly relative and not speculative poking, you may want to simply keep that to yourself.
