  • One of the Coolest Charvels EVER Arrives

I know that’s a pretty damn bold statement. But it is to me, at least.

There’s a long history to this one, but I’ll try to keep it short. Some may remember me telling a story on CC of my personal holy grail: a SD Charvie that I saw hanging in a local shop during the 80s. It was already sold, so I never had a shot. And it was so wild, outrageous, and jaw-gapingly cool that - like some kind of red-hot cattle brand - it forever seared a memory into my then-teenaged pea brain.

Well, after all this time, that very guitar resurfaced a year or so ago. The original owner still has it, and reached out to Trace J. He, in turn, discussed it with me. The owner wasn’t selling and, unfortunately, the original’s neck was busted long ago anyway. So I just HAD to have Charvel build me a new one. And, with the introduction of the new pointyhead line, the timing was perfect. So the order went off to the custom shop, along with pics of the original (thanks Trace) to be matched. And after a 20-plus year wait, my holy grail finally arrived today.

I tried to spec it as true to the original as possible, but had to flesh out some small unknown details with my own touches:

    - Alder Strat body
    - 22 fret maple/maple pointyhead neck
    - Dimarzio HSS PUs, Evolution (b) and Virtual Vintage Blues (m & n)
    - Original Floyd, non-recessed
    - Gotoh tuners
    - Volume, Tone, and 5-way
    - Black hardware
    - And, of course, the insane head-to-toe zebra graphic, inc. the logo and fret dots.

A HUGE thanks to all at J/C involved, inc. John Walker. Most especially, that goes to all of the guys in the custom shop for building a smoking instrument and to Dan Lawrence for the flat-out amazing graphic. Also, mucho grande thanks to Matt's Music for both a great deal and great customer service.

Don't worry - I'll smack her if it comes to that. You do not sell guitars to buy shoes. You skimp on food to buy shoes! ~Mrs Tekky 06-03-08~
