I Think I am becoming tired of this guitar, as crazy as that sounds!

This guitar has been with me for a LONG time(1985 I brought it home) and has been through a lot...but the more I play it, the more I don't care for it(That sounds crazy, but it went from my favorite player, to my least lately). Since my '06 Candy Blue San Dimas came home, it totally blows this one away. Sound/Feel/Action.

My luthier thinks I am crazy and offered to tinker around with the neck(shimming) to make the action lower(It is MUCH higher than the blue dimas) which is my biggest gripe. I like it RIDICULOUSLY low!.

I think I'll give it one last shot....if I don't care for the way it feels/plays it might be time to say bye bye to it.

I think if you got rid of it you would regret it. You've had it for so long that it is "boring", but that may be just because something new is in the house. I say give it some time and see how you feel.

Jay that guitar has been with you a long time, my advice would be to keep her. Maybe you could put her in back of the closet for awhile and revisit her at a later time.

For fun, I took out the firecrackle 3DR . I had the jt-6 tossed in favor of a chrome (early 80's) floyd and had a grind and polish job done to the frets. I scuffed the clear a little with 000 steel wool and played that for just a little while. It's definitely the red guitar that I've hit a flat stage with as I shredded the daylights out of the crackle.

It's going to stay on a nice vacation for some time. That sure is weird. One particular guitar makes you all screwy!

Try having it shimmed. Mine was a shimmed and the action is shred friendly low. If it's still boring - buy a new pedal and amp to go with it - that'll help too.

Don't sell it bro. Put it away and pull it back out in 6 months. If you STILL feel that way then you may be right in selling it...
20+ years is a long time to own a guitar.

Agreed!!& no harm in having a nostalgic guitar,I don't play my bloodsplatter Charvel as much anymore but it's not for sale!!You've had that red pointy a long time now,it's a keeper Jay!!

Don't sell it because you will regret in the not-too-distant future. I think everyone here as a least one or two stories of guitars that they wish they hadn't let get away from them.

Let your luthier do some setup work and keep the guitar around. If you really don't like the tone, consider a pickup swap.

Are you NUTS? She looks just like the San Dimas 2H I've got on order ... in other words, FRESH! Tell ya what ... if you get bored with her, pop on "Crossroads." When you see Jack Butler appear at the end with that exact same axe, you'll think to yourself, "Man ... if it's good enough for Jack Butler ... it's good enough for me ..."

If you've had her for 20 years, she's a total keeper. If you don't play her that often, it's all good 'cause she paid for herself years ago. Unless you're totally running out of space. Then you might have to sell her ... to ME. (My red 2H maple neck w/Floyd prob'bly won't be here for a while!) Tee hee.

Seriously, hang on to her. If you sell her, you'll totally kick yourself for it later.

I've had my 87 Ibanez since day 1. I've thought about selling it many times, but could never part with it.
I went almost two years without playing it once. When I finaly did take it out to play, it was like an old pair of sneakers. It felt great to play again.
Trust me on this... you'll only kick yourself later if you sell it.

+2... I have a '79 Strat that I bought in 1986. It's a stupid over-heavy baseball-bat-shaped-three-bolt-neck worst-of-CBS Fender, but I did a lot of work on it in the first few years I owned it and got it working for me -- or maybe got myself working for it. Anyway, I've had lots of other guitars, including some Seriously Nice ones, over the years, but this one damn Strat... it was the first professional-quality guitar I ever owned and a lot of my habits good and bad came from learning to work with it, and even though it was far from optimal when I got it (and it's far from original now, though it looks like a mint original if you don't stand too close) I can't imagine ever selling it, because in some way I'd be lost without it. One of my sons will inherit it.
