I would keep the guitar. I have a few Jacksons that I (or my close friend) have head from the 80s. They hardly see the light of day and aint for sale either. Maybe my kid will play them.

I am taking all of your advice! it's safely tucked away in the closet...resting for a while!

I donno, its just like not having fuel for a fire.....it doesn't have the shine. Perhaps after tinkering with the neck and a good time away from it, I'll be giddy about playing it again. For now, the other guitars will be played to death! My KV2 is in New Jersey right now according to Fed Ex. I can't wait for that to arrive and by weeks end, I'll have my pearl white PROFESSIONAL soloist.

Thanks for the warm suggestions and for listening!

NOOOOOO don't sell it. Just give it too me lol j/k hold on to it. Like every body else said. Its a classic. I've had a few guitars in pawn and when i picked themup it was like i bought new ones again. That whole thrill of a new guitar but yet ive had it since 92. Put it away for a while and take it out in a few months. But if ya do decide too sell it you know where i am.

Just an update, it's been a few days. It is still hibernating in the closet.

This is just a thought, but I've received two neck thru's in the past couple of days(One was the brand new KV2 which is awesome, tonight I received a pearl soloist from '90). The playing feel is VERY different compared to bolt ons. Even when I had my first SL-1(waay back) I loved how it felt...but the guitar needed work, so I sold it.

Maybe I am in a phaze where I prefer the neck thru? I was high and mighty on my candy blue charvel...that has been tamed a bit too. I like it still but always go to the neck thru's!

            Just an update.

              For the simple fact...

that you are posting here asking for input is enough to know that you will miss this guitar! DONT DO IT.

I have G.A.S. BAD... I mean BAD. For the last 10 years I have bought and sold more guitars than I care to mention. I miss almost ALL of them. My worst mistake was selling my 81 Les Paul custom (that I bought for $600 from a non player!) to buy something else that I was lusting over. I can't even remember what it was. So I sold it. About 2 years and many tears later I figured that I may be able to buy it back. Contacted the guy and he sold it to me for exactly what I sold it to him for! I finally got it back! Yes! All is good. ...not quite.

Guess what... I sold it again prob over 1 year ago like an a@@. because it was needing a fret job and the G.A.S. was kicking again. Tried to get it back a few months ago... can't find the guy who bought it. Two times the idiot!

MORAL: Don't be a fool like JOSH! Keep it. Just the other day I was watching crossroads and thought.. "man I've never had a Charvel. I'd love that Jack Butler one!"

by the way... Has anyone seen an 1981 Ebony Les Paul Custom with scratched up paint on body, almost no paint on neck, no pickguard, missing binding, a zebra duncan custom in bridge and 59 in the neck that plays like melted butter? I want it back!

              Ya get me? LOL

I'd check out going with a shim and have the action brought down the way you like, a pretty quick fix that does not cost much at all. I had a shim put in my SD because I wanted low action and have my Floyd float a bit higher, it worked out nice!

It's cool that you guys look out for me like this!

I am not making any EXTREME decisions any time soon. That guitar is simply on vacation! It's funny, I dropped off my eerie dess SL-1 for some tlc work and brought the predator because I thought it buzzed too much(thought maybe the neck was bowed, it is straight as an arrow). Turns out, I had the action TOO low and it plays better with it a little higher(i guess due to the radius it choked when it was too low). I was starting to become frustrated with that one too. The littlest things make the biggest difference!

I feel for you guys who've sold axes and regretted it. I will continue to say that I miss my first SL-1 eerie, even though it was nearly beaten to hell..it ripped! With a fretjob and a re-finish, it'd have been killer. Oh well, what's done is done. Red charvie won't go anywhere anytime soon, it's just going to take a VERY long nap!

Tastes change man. I am going thru the exact opposite phase at the moment. I have an 84 RR, 88 RR and 89 KV and a recent SL1. They all sit in the cases. SD Charvels get played almost exclosively. I bet you will want to play her again eventually. Give it time.

How about this: send me the guitar for a couple of months. When you start to really miss it and want it back, wait another 2 months. If you still want it back after that, I'll ship it back to you. If you've decided you can live without it, sell it.

It was a gorgeous day and being my new KV2 is also a RED guitar, I thought it'd be cool to wake Charvie up and snap a pic of it next to it's brother in front of the 'vette. tell me if there isn't enough red in this pic

I see 2 orange guitars in front of an orange Vette!

The lighting has a tendency to do that. The 'dimas is actually a little dark..it looks cherry red in that pic. The KV2 and the car are blood red. Weird how light affects colors.

All you need now is a red PRS Corvette with an abalone 427 fretboard inlay. Geez, I wonder where you could find one of those at a great price?
