  • Charvel 2005 Koa San Dimas

Hello forum members, this is my first post here.
I am the proud and happy owner of a solid body flamed koa 2005 San Dimas, maple/ rosewood pointy headstock, two Rio Grande humbuckers, incredible tone and beauty.
The Koa is finished in a satin tung oil, I think. I would like to wet sand and touch up a couple of small dings: what type of tung oil is used at the Charvel Factory and is it possible for me to make some minor repairs to the finish so that the tung oil will blend with the original finish.
Also, I am not enthralled with the neck, I think a solid maple with Strat head would look/ sound better. Is it possible to buy a Strat head directly from Charvel? What is a good and economical way to substitute a Strat head for a pointy head stock?
Thanks in advance for any information.

no they do not sell replacement necks yet ...
Don't worry - I'll smack her if it comes to that. You do not sell guitars to buy shoes. You skimp on food to buy shoes! ~Mrs Tekky 06-03-08~

Is yours the NAMM show guitar?

Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

That guitar is sweet. Keep it as is, pointy and all.

Musikraft can make you a killer strathead neck.

That is my guitar. I didn't know it was at NAMM.

Yes, that is my guitar. I had no idea that it was at NAMM. I'll probably keep the guitar stock, why fix something not broken.
By the way, does tung oil inhibit resonance in wood? Is it possible for me to wet sand some small dings and refinish with tung oil?
              Thanks for the replies.

Most people feel that oil is best since it's a light finish and brings out the tone more. For small dings, I'd just use a damp towel, then put an iron on top to steam out the dings. You probably won't need another coat of oil for a couple years, but any tung oil should be fine.

Check out the one I just built. It's the one on the bottom.I finished both the neck and body in Tung Oil and it is by far my best sounding guitar.A real tone monster.Oh and for reference the top one is a Wayne body.

Musikraft makes fantastic charvel style necks but that being a NAMM show guitar and just a gorgeous piece overall, I would not change it.
