Charvel NEVER made any guitars in Ft. Worth. Shreddermon is correct - it's Made in Japan.

Hey newbie, it's a common mistake...Jackson was owned by a company that had HQ in Texas at the time....for some reason they made a decision to put those neckplates on there....it's definitely a Japanese guitar but that doesn't mean it sucks. Get us a pic and we'll fully ID it!

I'll take John's word over anyone else's regarding this matter.

There wasn't a factory there per se; but they did have some sort of set-up room there. I had heard that some assembly or modding (of the Jap guitars) went on there.

A former JCFer here, Black Mariah, used to work at Ft. Worth there.

So your buddy probably did take a tour, jabez....but I reiterate....any Charvels with the Fort Worth neckplate were manufactured at the Japanese factory.

That is correct what ron is saying though, right? Weren't the Model 5a's (single hum neckthroughs) made into Model 5FX's at the texas facility?

                            that's the word

QC was carried out in Texas before the Japanese axes were shipped to dealers. They had the tools there to mod the 5As into 5FXs
