not that it really matters ...but
my ~95~ plated traditional sure looks allot more like the one in the 96 catalogue IE ..maple dots ..non rail single coils and the 95 cat definitely shows a wilkereson while the 96 shows the custom V trem

I've got an old GW ad that shows the SD1, SD II, SD III, SD IV and SD V. The SD V is what they're calling "Traditional" in the catalog... 3 blade single coils and a Wilkenson trem.
Also, the SD I through IV models all have one volume and blade switch. Interesting they made some then with toggle switches!

I think the earliest examples had the toggle switch, then they moved to the blade. I have a Metal Method tape where a guy (not Doug Marks) is ripping through Ozzy stuff on an SD1 with the toggle. I wish my SD1 had the toggle.

These are strange guitars. Don't forget the earliest ones have Jackson neck plates, Jackson style neck plate scallop and skunk stripes. No skunk stripe meanst truss adjusts at the headstock, which I prefer.

Hmm, how early did these come out? The GW mag that I've got is from Feb. '95 (EVH is on the cover with a beard and short spikey hair).

I do remember about the Jackson plates on some, though.

Some of the first ones were made in 94, with Jackson plates, and I just remembered this, the earlist also had Schaller Floyds still. Some of those are in a catalog.

Yeah, the ad I've got shows the SD IV with a gold Schaller.
This catalog ad states it's got a real Floyd, but clearly it's a Schaller. http://www.audiozone.dk/CatalogScans...SanDimas06.htm

This was a very transitional period. These guitars were the first Charvels built in a while, hence the first had Jackson plates. It seems the OFR was replacing the JT590, but early models didn't get the OFR, though it was to become the standard, which is why they stated that in the catalog.

DM2M: 519 EUR + shipping 8 EUR (including danish VAT)

                            DK2M: $649, Shipping: $100
Danish VAT: 25%, Danish import tax: 2%
                            Result: (649 + 100) x 1.27 = $951

How do you get the 20-30% savings in favour of importing from America?

I know this is pretty much OT, admins... maybe i should start a new thread.
I´m not talking about the cheapo Imports that cost Import tax in the USA as well (which instantly levels the playing field), but about the USA made guitars that were originally topic of this thread

I also don´t assume that MAP is what I´ll pay, but call dealers for a better deal, that all adds up real fast

My SD1 had a jackson plate, schaller trem, and a blade 5/way, never seen a toggle 5/way.

                                They aren't 5-way toggles,they're standard 3-way toggles like a Gibson switch!!

Beautiful figuring on that SD1 btw!!
