Yeah, it seems weird. Where the heck did they come up with the design then. What are the chances that the EVH necks are just Fender Strat necks? heh.

Sounds like there was a compromise on the neck dimensions between EVH and jackson.... thicker than normal to make Eddie happy, but not a LOG that no one could play.

I've found that the Charvel EVH neck feels a lot like the Music Man Axis necks. Now, I've never played a MM EVH, so I can't compare these two. But the Axis and the Charvel feel very similar to me.

I've got an early production Wayne (with the old "almost" Strat-head). I would imagine they are very similar. And yes, it feels awesome. But the Wolfgang neck is nice too...

Well I had SD Charvel 5490 which is a strat head and the neck is a bit beefier than a SD pointy.I have had several pointys to compare it to so thats my 2cents.
              Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I like my EVH. It's a Cool and interesting guitar. If anyone can help me, I'd like to get the 1st fret and 12th fret specs. If anyone knows them. I believe it to be slightly fatter than a SD Charvel. .810 to .850 at a guess.

I wish they would expand the line. The stripes are cool but I can't take the guitar on stage. You're pretty much a marked man with a striped guitar.

I want a neck puck up too.

I also think the guitar can be a touch too bottom end-y. I'd like to add a maple top.

Re; basswood. Ed started using basswood in '83 is with Kramer. Which is also where the current neck profile is comming from. If you listen to "Black and blue" you can really hear the basswood bottom end and warmth (less top end)

Compare it to some of the stuff off of VH-II where Ed was running a simpler Marshall set up. You can hear the differences.

Ed seems to like a very warm, round sound. The EVH art sort of get's you there. Right out of the box.

I'm personally not a huge fan of Ed's sound. I haven't been since he started using amps with lots of built in preamp gain.

Thanks pfrischmann, that's some of the information I was looking for. Seems that those who own the EVH's like the bodies and the necks.

                    Yup,
The pickup is pretty awesome too. Very different. You can tell some time went into developing it.

$750? Err, wow. I think they are way off. Look at the OFR and the EVH pickup alone, which is going for $100 used. Then add the paint (especially on the red one) which goes for $500 a gallon. You're already up to $300 before even getting to the body and neck.

That fret job alone should be $200 ish....

Thats what it would cost you to take a cheapo guitar in for fret dressing/levelling/setup to the same quality...and good luck finding a competent guy to do that work....

$750? :lol. That sound like envious Kramer import buyers. And the neck feels like a Fender Strat? Have you guys even played any Strats? Geesh, that's laughable. The neck is absolutely nothing like a Strat. Great guitars. Nuff said.

Well I'll agree with that, except for the $500.00 per gallon paint thing. It would cost you at least $1000.00 to reproduce that axe yourself, even if you did all the labor. So I'd say they are worth from $1000.00 to $1500.00, but definitely not the $2600.00 selling price. For that kind of money I can buy a hell of a lot more guitar than the EVH.
My goal in life is to be the kind of asshole my wife thinks I am.

That's what the Custom Shop guys claimed at Fuller's guitar, there's a post here about it.
