Maple is also a pretty heavy wood, so your back may not care for it all that much.

What about soft maple. It is lighter then hard maple a tad warmer sounding and lighter. My LTD is made of soft maple and weighs in at a little under 8lbs. I did play an ESP Bengal that also felt very light. My GX Bullseye RI weighs more the both of these and it's alder?Comment

Maple is heavy but has great tone.Use a mediun out put humbucker.DiMarzio PAF for example.My 87 USA Jackson has a maple body and 2 J-50s and it has the mojo.
That lacquer paint has checked and looks beat to hell but I love that.
