  • Leftover EVH bodies?

Looking through some of the online dealer guitar stock, I've noticed that a lot of the recent Charvel stratheads have basswood bodies. (That's not necessarily a bad thing, mind you - I love the tone of my EVH's basswood.) And then it occurs to me that pretty much all of the basswoods have single hum, direct mount PUs and no trem cavity cover routes. i.e., Just like the EVHs.

So I'm wondering if they had a bunch of extra unfinished EVH bodies left over from those runs, and sent them out to Mike L. et al for a different graphic/finish? And, if so, does that mean some or all of these guitars also have EVH neck profiles, instead of the "standard" strathead neck?

Finally, that makes me wonder if the EVHs are beginning to run their course? I know they're still "available" for order but, looking at dealer stock and/or sales, it seems like things may have reached their peak. I'm guessing not many new ones are getting made, if at all. And if so, like with the prior limited runs, EVHs may start getting scarce as existing dealer stock eventually dwindles down.

(Where's that scratching your head icon when you need it? )

This would be interesting for me because I want the specs without the paintjob. Love the body, the wood, the neck, but not the paint job, and I also have one with the pup removed.

Maybe these are the ones that had the 'wrong' red?.....

Probably not. There are pics of Mike L. painting some of them, and he's not airbrushing over an EVH job.

I was wondering the same thing myself in regards to the DM pickup. I had just assumed, though, it left more of the artwork uncluttered by the PU ring.

As the topic has now been brought up I haven't seen anyone talking about the now surfacing Mike Learn Charvel's...I was curious what people thought of the different graphics as I have purchased one of them.

Iv'e been asking that same question for over an year now and STILL have'nt gotten an (real) answer. These EVH Charvels are "supposed" to be an Limited Edition as there advertised in any guitar magazine that you pick-up or order from.................Where's IS that scratching head icon???

p.s. bet you a Keg you still won't get a "real" answer....... my Jackson/Fender/Charvel dealer even can't..........

Definitely not airbrushing over EVH graphics.

admit it, you're actually airbrushing between the stripes, and we'll have all kinds of Learn demon heads and skulls and flames peeking out from within the stripes. :ROTF:

for you sensitive types, that was a joke...

Not quite what I meant It just seems an odd coincidence that we know a whole bunch of EVH's went wrong, and now we're seeing Mike's graphics appearing on the same spec body - C/J are quite adept at salvaging problems and selling guitars on, which is what got me thinking!

I actually think there's a demand for this. A lot of people here have commented that they love the feel and build of the EVH. A lot have also said that they are not so keen on being seen playing one of these on stage or even in the backyard (heh). I think it's a good idea to introduce this new type of guitar with different paint. It's just a new option.

Custom shop order. Just like all of the stratheads being discussed are.
