Opinions on 25th Anniversary Charvel

Looking at the reviews on Musicians Friend, I never bought one of these guitars when they were still at retail. It was all the negative comments that held me back.

I'd like opinions from members who played the 80-83 strathead charvels, if possible!

Is it in the ballpark, or a complete miss (as the MF reviews claim)?
