I'm taking new pictures... when I seat the neck against the top line, the bottom of the pocket has the gap.. hope that was clear in the last post... the neck appears to be the issue.

I'll post these when it gets downloaded from the uber-slow camera memory.

Neck heel sanded too narrow??....or neck pocket too wide??....still poor workmanship & indicative of the recent build quality issues!!

Unacceptable on a $2k plus guitar imo!!

Here's my neck pocket on my 25th... it can't get any better. I've been basing my judgement of Charvel on this one instrument..

Does anyone know if the PC1 necks have the same specs as Charvel Strat Head necks?

In what Trace? Heel size? Or backshape?

            Backshape should be thicker
            Heel should be the same
Don't worry - I'll smack her if it comes to that. You do not sell guitars to buy shoes. You skimp on food to buy shoes! ~Mrs Tekky 06-03-08~

Also (in case it isn't totally obvious)...

              24 frets vs. 22.
Two piece neck with truss rod adjustment at headstock, vs. one piece & at the heel.

Huh? The HRF is not 24, and it's a PC1 neck.

Trace, you have brought up an interesting point. Were you wondering if the neck gap could be a function of the PC1 charvel neck, and something that should be expected if you order one like that?

Mickey, when describing that as a "PC1 neck", I believe MZ was just speaking to the special backshape/profile. As Kev said, the PC1 backshape is thicker & rounder than the Charvel stratheads. Otherwise, that neck is standard Charvel.

Exactly... a PC1 neck is a true 24 fret neck with a flame maple board and no fret markers.
It's also the only production 24 fret strathead that JCMI makes.
And it's way thicker than a standard Charvel strathead.
Whoever told you it was a PC1 neck was yanking your chain man.
It might have a similar back profile perhaps.

No-one was yanking his chain. A simple misunderstanding. Quoting the MZ website (italics and bold added for emphasis)...

Yeah, we're talking about charvels. It's got a Charvel PC1 neck profile. I certainly didn't mean it has a jackson neck. That wouldn't fit. This is a strathead charvel. Love the neck, btw. That's a really cool neck shape - it's really solid feeling, you can fly on it.

"Charvel PC-1 neck"....no such thing Mickey!!

The neck shape is the PC-1 shape.....still standard neck heel & pocket width!!

If these gaps bother you enough to ask whether or not to send it back...send it back. FWIW, this would not be an issue for me if it was something I had wanted for twenty years. If it sounds good, plays well, holds tuning and looks bitchin'...I would play the piss out of it and just enjoy the thing.

Having said that, it is your guitar and your choice to make.
