  • Animal instinct... Charvel style

Just got this today. The first guitar in while in which the wife went "Oh cool!!"
The neck is very thin, by far the smallest feeling of all the Charvels I own.
Not too heavy and very resonant. The DRL work is impecable.

On a sad note, it needs a setup like I need a beer. The neck is super straight, not a cent of relief so the high and low Es are vibrating against the first few frets a bit.

No biggie, I'll give it a few days to aclimate to its new surroundings and take the neck off (arrgh!) and give it some relief. Tomorrow I'll put it through the paces getting a little late to crank the ol amp.

congrats, and yeah the necks are real thin. For those who have played the EVH ART guitars the neck feels very similar (at least to me).

Are you guys talking nut width or backshape Trace? For me, the EVH is anything but thin.

Hey james, I am talking back shape not the nut width. Hey drop up for a visit and play them side by side (and bring your RedRum)

Nut width is 1 11/16" std.

It is the back shape, I wouldn't compare it too much to the EVH as much as a thinner version of the Greenies we did last year.
I just plugged it for 2 minutes into The Avenger and it rips.

Looks great, bro. Dan's work kicks @ss.

Interesting that there's no backplate on these. Do you know what the body wood is? And - can't quite tell from the pics - is the trem blocked for no pull-ups?

When you said this in the other thread, I was thinking the same thing, Trace? My EVH is not a thin backshape, either. Asymmetrical: thicker on the low E side, thinner on the high E. But, overall, I wouldn't consider the neck "thin" at all. It's nothing like my other new Charvels, although all of mine so far have the thin pointyhead backshape. (Including my new strathead, as I spec'd the neck that way. )

Honestly, I think the closest thing I have to the EVH neck is my PC1, which is on the beefy side of neck profiles.
