I recently purchased a used 1995 SD Koa with birdseye neck, Wilkinson trem, and Duncan Pup's: a JB neck and a Distortion bridge. I find the bridge pup to be harsh to my ears, especially on the higher notes. Without changing the pickup, would a heavier set of strings (10-46) relieve some of the bite? Also, would a change from 9-42 to 10-46 string gauge require a truss rod adjustment?
I am going to refinish the koa body in tung oil as it has dulled and has a few minor dings. Does anyone have advice as to how to remove the pickups and bridge when I refinish the body. I know how to finish wood, but I have never taken a guitar apart before.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
