i think of these as something to look at. if i bought one (which i won't because i can't afford it) i would play it a little then hang it on the wall like art.

i consider these high-end replicas to be "functional art".....a sculpture you can play.

the only people that would REALLY want one of these is a SUPER harcore EVH fan. i have an affordable relic 5150 replica built from my '85 baretta, and i NEVER play it because i am not an EVH fan. but it is cool to look at. my mom LOVES it because she is a HUGE EVH fan. she said that i should ALWAYS keep that guitar because it is the coolest one i have. i laughed.

now, if shawn gets one, curiosity will KILL me and i will HAVE TO go look at it!! hahaha!!!

but no envy involved on my end. it think it is really cool that they are doing it, and i think the price tag is justifiable. when fender decides to do this stuff, they do it right. mr. walker was collecting the appropriate year quarter? THAT is detail!! ever see the rory gallagher relic reissue (the first run)? STUNNINGLY detailed. even smelled like it was old!!!!

to me that is where the price is......in the DETAIL!!!

not that anyone cares what i think....
    GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

    and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

      dude, +1000!!
I love EVH, and it took my masters degree to confirm it
Seriously, I'd LOVE to possess one.....but not at $30K.

Throw in a photo of the two of you, print it up and have it autographed, and call it a day.

Now that I could see as being more worth a premium price....

Mike I also have a Masters degree, but I cannot see the justification yet. Maybe I need to step up and get that PhD my advisor recommended. :ROTF:

Jose, yeah only PhD's can comprehend such expenditures....and at the risk of making a sweeping generalization, it's usually because they specialize in the conceptual/theoretical without regard to the application in the real world.

There is an add in GW for them already and a web site as well (that has nothing on it). They are calling it the EVH Guitar company and Fender is the parent company.

From Eddie Van Halen comes the latest musical instrument gear designed by the rock 'n' roll god himself and inspired by years of chasing tone.

                    • Got my GW today. 1971 quarter. 300 of them. MSRP in the range $25,000 to $30,000. Nice article about Chip Ellis making them (and from the wording in the article, it looks like they are well into production as there is a quote "The weight on all 300 guitars is within a half-pound range of Ed's original. All the bodies are two pieces of ash with a center seam").

The ad Jason1212 mentions says available Spring 2007.

There's an interview w/Ed that speaks a lot of the original frankie and of his amps and such.

Actually all of it is pretty good reading. And Ed looks better in the cover shot when you have the magazine in hand.

                        • Barbizon? LOL. I remember those commercials when I was a kid watching "The Price Is Right".
Shawn, I'm guessing you're at least in your 30s to have pulled that one out?

Anyway, so they're going to make 300? Hmmm. My first reaction is surprise since the other runs like this were limited to 100. But I guess they sell-out so quick, Fender figured "Let's make more of them".

Boy, that just goes to show you those magizines are a slave to the big companies every whim. Talk about "tool". Getting everybody all worked up right before they let them loose on the market. Most of the people that were kids in EVH's prime time are making 6 figures right about now, too. Coincidence?

I hadn't thought of that before (about the magazine). Interesting you mention that as at the end of the article they say:
"The next EVH products will make their official debut in an upcoming issue of Guitar World."
In the 'from the editor' page, they say:
"just a small sign of big things to come as Ed gets ready to light up the sky in the upcoming months. And if you want all the VH news first, just stay tuned!"

kinda like those "Extra" or "ET" TV shows....we have all the latest gossip, no one else does, keep tuning in to us and us only to get the latest info!

I'll try to see if I can post some scans of the article
