I have heard that these are common especially in the neckpocket area. Do they have a tendency to grow over time? I have my eye on an EVH at a local shop that they have discounted to $1650.00. It looks to be perfect aside from the hairline crack the runs fromwhere the neck lays on the block to just above the neck plate. it is about an inch long. Would this qulify as a good deal?

That type of clearcoat crack is very common. It's just the nature of the materials, especially when you have a really tight fit between the neck & pocket. As far as growing, it might but I wouldn't worry too much about it. The ones on my older guitars have stayed right where they were when I got them. That price seems good, right about where the lowest ones have been on eBay, iirc.
