Nope. The only times that has ever happened with any of my orders, it was to clarify something on the work order or to answer some other question the custom shop might've had. Otherwise - poof! - they just show up one day.

Really? How about if you requested a progress report from time to time? Would they comply?

"Comply"? As in "submit, resistence is futile!" j/k

No, I don't ask for progress reports from the custom shop. I know what you mean, and getting progress updates would be cool. But they're in the business of building guitars, after all. Documenting history isn't one of their primary functions. I'd rather them spend time actually building my stuff, rather than taking pics and sending e-mails about it.

However, on rare occassions, I have checked in with my dealer once or twice, to see if he's heard anything. I leave it to the dealer's judgement whether to touch base with the custom shop or not. I don't expect him to do so - that's his call. And if he just tells me "nope, haven't heard anything yet", I'm fine with that. I'll know when he knows.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. I'm just trying to get an idea of what it's like to deal with the Charvel Custom Shop.
Again, nice guitar. I'm sure it was worth the wait.

I prefer ebony or maple to rosewood, but that's an awesome guitar.

What's the sticker on the back of the headstock say? Something to the effect of "this headstock design has been licensed for use of Charvel by Fender Musical Instruments Corporation blablabla"?

edit: sorry for insulting your pao ferro, calling it rosewood :p I'm tired, heh.

Yeah, it's the standard licensed strathead legal disclaimer. I just haven't pulled it off yet.

The pao ferro is awesome, too. I really dig this as a fretboard wood a lot. It's definitely my favorite wood, as far as feel. The brown is a medium shade like hot cocoa-with-milk, with some cool red/rust-ish colored highlights. If you've never played it, it feels a lot more like ebony than rosewood. A much, much tighter grain - less open pores - and a very hard, dense wood, so it's very slick and slippery feeling like ebony.
So true! I have a Pau Ferro strat neck and I absolutely love it. Dense but its not as hard to the touch as ebony. It also has incredible coloration. To defend the Rosewood, not all rosewoods are created the same. Cocobolo and Kingwood are much less open in my opinion though apparently still pretty oily woods from what I hear. Palisander Rosewood is my least favorite and seems to be the most common. Very open structure, kinda soft. Indian Rosewood is a little better then you have the dense rosewoods like Brazilian, Cocobolo, Kingwood. The Pau Ferro neck I have sports a kingwood board and I can't praise it enough. Its the perfect fretboard wood and like Cocobolo it has extremely intense figuring. If you can't get one of the higher priced woods, Pau Ferro is imo the best bang for your buck. Its cheaper than most of the exotics and if you ask me it has a better feel than plain rosewood and ebony.
