  • Thinking of buying an EVH RWB

Anything I need to know about these things first before I buy one? Are they all just standard Charvel guitars of were there any limited runs or custom shop models? I have seen most with chrome floyds but there is a dealer with some that have black floyds???
    Thanks for your help

They're all the same. Never seen one with black Floyds - that sounds suspect.

I wouldn't call them a "standard Charvel", though. There's quite a few differences between the EVHs and a typical Charvel strathead. The neck backshape and depth is quite different (thicker overall, with an offset shape where the high E side is thinner than the low), the frets are different (medium jumbos), custom pickup, body wood is different (basswood), trem is blocked, etc.

Yeah I read the specs on the Charvel web page and they stated that 100 were going to be created as a limited run....the date of the article was 2004...here is a blurb from the article...anyone ever seen one of these or is it the Frankenstrat that just came out? If so I guess it took longer than they expected...and PS here is one with a black floyd EVH-BlackFloyd

In addition to the new Charvel EVH Art Series guitars, the Charvel Custom Shop will introduce a limited run of guitars that will be faithful recreations of Edward’s classic red guitar with black and white stripes. The Charvel Custom Shop will work closely with Van Halen to create no more than 100 pieces, all of which will replicate the original down to every detail, including original specifications, as well as its nicks, scratches and wear marks. More details with regards to pricing and availability will be forthcoming.

That press release is speaking about the Frankie replica that just came out, not the "regular" EVH models.

And that Floyd is chrome, not black. It's just a bad pic.

Given that they're still in the 2007 pricelist, I would assume they are still in production. A lot of dealer stock still out there, though, so my guess is there aren't many getting made now, if at all.

As to quality, I got mine when they first came out. Or, at least, when the reds first came out. (...Which was several months after the other two.) Mine's top notch, as have been my recent customs.

I had an early Black and Yellow and had to send it back for a neck replacement. I ended up getting a new guitar instead. It was top notch and one of my favorite players. So much so I took a chance with a custom shop basswood dinky order. Can't wait to get that one.

What was wrong with the neck?

I got three. Thrilled with them all. They don't seed to be "thrown together" like some of the USA Jackson i've had in the last few years. Matter of fact, 90% of the Custom Shop C/J bolt-ons I've nabbed in the last two years have been pretty well done. That's probably about 15 gits. Maybe it's a Shannon thing?

I have 2 RBW (one i use as a main gigging guitar) and 1 B/Y and I really like them.

If you are not afraid of buying sight unseen you can get a new one for around $1900 through several online companies.

That guy was funny, seemed nice. I think when you asked him a question he shook up an 8 ball or cracked open a fortune cookie.

My Brother in Law has one, and its a brute! Raw, edgy .. fantastic tone!
Neck is superb. Very light in weight also. If you can pick one up for under $1800.00 a great bargain, and possibly the best playing solid body
