Does anyone know what brand of oil is used at the Custom shop for the necks?

Does anyone ever use that (gunstock oil) to treat ebony boards?

No I use the Birchwood Casey on my Raw maple boards (and the gun stock wax).
On Ebony someone from one of the other boards turned me on to this stuff called "guitarHoney) and it's for rosewood and ebony boards.
I use it on my Sl2H soloist and it makes the fretboard look and feel great.

According to the luthiers at the custom shop, they use tung oil for the necks.

The J/C Custom Shop uses Birchwood Casey Gunstock oil.
I got this from Mike Kotzen and Mike Shannon directly. They wipe it on, then right off several times without any "dwell time".

+1 I just finished a Musikraft Maple Tele neck, and it is just like the San Dimas Charvel 25th Anniv. I owned.

I wonder if they follow this with a carnuba wax? This would explain the residue I found at the nut on an EVH.This would also provide that slick feel. The oil/wax combo has been used on fine furniture of years.

Probably not too far off base - the walnut neck I'm finishing now will have a Watco Danish oil finish, followed by wax and a severe buffing. As the saying goes, "there are plenty of ways to skin a cat"...or oil a neck in this case

I think it's just the Tru Oil. It builds up, so the residue could've just been from several coats building up by the nut & not getting hit when they buffed it.
