Hmmm. I always wondered what the "specially formulated" oil finish was...

Do NOT use Tru oil on a fretboard unless it's maple, and it will wear very quickly... which is another reason not to use it on the FB...
Jackson does use Tru oil on the oiled necks, so does fender custom shop. Some builders including acoustic builders use it to finish the entire instrument, not just the neck.

One caveat: Use sparingly or it will sag when drying. Apply thin coats with your index finger, and rub it INTO the wood grain. After a week, apply a few coats of wax and you're good to go.
Honestly, IMHO, I'd only use lemon oil for the fretboard itself. As for the neck, Tru-Oil would be a perfect application.

Hmm ... I'd hate to be in the middle of a jam and suddenly crave a salad because my guitar smells like one :ROTF:Don't worry - I'll smack her if it comes to that. You do not sell guitars to buy shoes. You skimp on food to buy shoes! ~Mrs Tekky 06-03-08~

Jimmy D'Acquisto, the acoustic guitar maker, actually recommends motor oil.I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

I got this from Mike Kotzen and Mike Shannon directly. They wipe it on, then right off several times without any "dwell time".
Did they happen to mention if it should be re-applied periodically, and if so how frequently? Thanks.
