  • Questions about San Dimas, new or old?

    Hi all,

My first Charvel was a M4 in 88.....it was sold in '92 ....however, I now have another '88 M4m that I'm really enjoying and it has gotten me interested in the Charvel history and vintage guitars. Back in the day I was really unaware of SD guitars. So my questions are:

If I wanted to try to find a vintage SD guitar where are the best places to look and how much should I expect to pay? 3k+?

Are the SD series guitars that you see now on Ebay (usually selling for 800-2500) any good? Are they worth the price? To me if I drop 2k on a current production guitar that's a big investment and I would want one worthy of the $$. Thanks!

Also, just wanted to add that I am only seeking info....not trolling for sales. I'm not trying to break any regs, so please let me know if I'm in no-no territory. Thanks!

At the moment it seems that you can find an well used SD pointy for around a grand, if you can live with a Kahler or vintage trem. Floyds go for more. The recent SD series guitars have a great reputation and can be had real cheap, again, especially if you can live with a vintage trem...
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get
