Yep, looks like it will be the used market for my Charvel needs. The funny thing is that the custom Suhr I have on order is cheaper than a base price Charvel. If I ordered a Charvel to the specs I ordered the Suhr, the Charvel would cost $2700 more becasue of option upcharges and the masterbuilt upcharge.

it's astonishing to me how FMIC can do so well with Fender and provide many cost effective good quality guitars under that marque and then turn around and totally wreck the Charvel name.

from MLearn's comments of recent, it appears new people took over JCMI's operating unit within FMIC recently and they are just running roughshod over what used to make sense (pls correct me if I'm getting this part wrong...).

either way, it's stupid and sad.

Fenders are great guitars even at that price, but when I compare it to my Jackson, I'm thinking the Jackson is going to take a lot longer to make. Neck through, binding, archtop, better bridge, better nut, etc. I'm not saying it's a nicer guitar necessarily 9though my Jackson is better than my Custom fender) but it's clear that the Jackson has a little extra.

Fair enough, but how does Charvel fit in? After all, most are a bolt on neck, unbound, rear-loaded strats....

It is just absurd that with these prices, a replica of a real San Dimas Strathead ends up costing more than the original!

Bitching aside, I am convinced that if Charvel agrees to make a "large ltd run" of say 100 plain jane Stratheads, 1 or 2H, OFR, just basic colors (say red, white and black), and sell them street price for $ 2,000 max, they will sell them out within 3 months.

            Agree?

Not sure if that would happen at $2000. Wildwest have had solid colours sitting around for a while, and they're less than 2000. Musiczoo have the naturals (inc Koa) and the flat blacks (OK, they're an oddity) and they have by no means all sold.

Personal experience....I wanted a really nice Floyded 2 hum guitar. I shopped around for a long time, and seriously considered a bunch of plain Jane Charvels between $1600 and $1800, but couldn't find the right one. Eventually ended up getting a minty used McNaught with mucho bling for $1800. That guitar kicks my ass. Couldn't be happier. I think that's gonna be the story for most people. The other options at that price point are too good for Charvender to compete with.

Man, those prices are nutz!! Before all of these insane price increases I was thinking up my next CS Jackson/Charvel. Basically a neck thru natural tung oiled mahogany Star in 24.75 scale. I am running away as fast as I can from JCMI!! Man, they have really lost their minds over there. I wish FMCI would sell Jackson/Charvel already Jack.

I'm with ya on your point dan, but I was referring to Charvels only as this was a USA Charvel thread I thought

they won't do a limited run that big, I know of attempts to order in the hundreds that Charvel wouldn't do

                        Good point!!!

I was just thinking how Jackson skyrocketed their prices as well.

Buying a new Charvel right now would be about the dumbest thing anyone could do for the simple fact that there is no market for them and your $3000 guitar would be worth about $1000 24 hours after you received it.

Holy F%$! I was re reading the price list. So its $3,000.00 for a base San Dimas "Strat".
I saw that gold hrdwre is $264.00 upcharge :ROTF: and no longer see "Black Cherry offerd as a custom or standard color"
                            Strat heads are $300.00 upcharge.
To replace my San Dimas now would be $3,349, I saved about $2K my gold tuners cost $75.00. I got it 2 months ago and really happy that I was able to get one, makes them more desirable. you will see. . time will tell.

Yeah, it's crap. Stratheads were 'always' (recently) a 300 buck upcharge though....

I wonder if FMIC has a will written out for Charvel Guitars, because with these prices they aren't going to last much longer...
